Transferring sounds from Nord Electro 4HP to Nord Stage

Post by luko33 »

Hi,

I'm going to be playing abroad 5 or 6 times this year, and in most (if not all) cases I'm going to be getting a rented Nord Stage or Nord Stage 2. I've found a way to manually set in the live mode the 5 sounds and effects I use most frequently, but I suppose it would be much better if I could just load my all my presets from my laptop using the Nord sound manager.

I've seen in other threads that it is possible to do this if your keyboard is the same model as the rented keyboard (ie Nord Stage to Nord Stage), but is it possible to transfer sounds from a Nord Electro 4 to a Nord Stage?

Cheers!!

No, not possible. Different structure, you can only copy similar settings manually (and result will not be 100% the same so be ready for some adjustments, e.g. on Effects)

It is possible to transfer the sample itself (if you have the original samples), but then again: you have to create all programs manually.

That's what I thought... too bad. That's what I did on saturday, I spent a good 30 minutes setting up all the parameters, effects, etc., during the sound check (wth the added stress it implies because we were on a tight schedule) and the result was ok for Hammond and pianos, but quite bad for Farfisa sounds, the EQ was supposed to be flat but it just didn't sound right, no matter how hard I tried...

I guess I'll have to work harder on those Nord Stage tutorial videos... a real shame I can't get my good old 4HP on the plane with me

Thanks a lot anyway

Strange and interesting that you have a challenge on Farfisa sounds, which I would have expected to not have changed much between the 2 generations of Organ engine, I thought they only improved Hammond & Rotary

Thanks for the reply! I'm a software rookie, but I think I get what you're saying... Could you please elaborate on the sample transferring? (Idk if it is explained in a comprehensible way in the instructions). In my case I would only be using an upright piano, a B3 and a Farfisa, all from the 4HP...

I assume after copying the samples I would have to create and save the sounds on to the Stage's memory... What I did last saturday was save stuff to the Live presets, as saving to the tone bank seemed far too complicated with all those buttons and very little time...

Is it relatively easy to create and store new sounds on to the Stage's memory? Please note that I don't have one at home for practice. Cheers!

Yep, it surprised me a lot too. Most of the gig I thought it was related to my monitor, so I even talked to the sound guy halfway to the gig to make sure my EQ was flat. But later my drummer confirmed me Farfi was sounding bad from where he stood too... hard to explain but it was just a lot worse. I was looking for a powerful, slightly distorted and reverbed sound, kind of like a vintage philicorda (which I have at home), which is easy to achieve with the 4HP... but there was no way of getting close, no matter how much I fiddled with all the amps, reverb, etc. Really frustrating
