All the guitar-based bands I know play it in E. That's because they don't like Eb (unless they tune down a half step). It's a half step below their open E on the fretboard. But I always tell them that for keys players, they should play it in Eb like the original because then all the riffing falls on the black keys. Playing it in E wrecks the moves for the keys players but makes life easier for the guitar players. They should be made to play it in Eb. :)

That's a good reason for having the Transpose button at our fingertips - on the main deck - not buried in some silly contortioned button presses or menus :)!

That's a great video - closest to the original I've ever heard.

I've heard Prince play Superstition at an after show party and even he didn't get the thing 100%!

A clean clavinet with a short and quick delay on it.

Unfortunately, with the Electro 5, you have less options for adjusting tone and pickup setting for the Clav patch. The Stage 2 was more versatile for Clavs. That being said, you can try tweaking the master EQ to try and come closer to the actual tone of the recording.

I agree with the above: clav on DA, no mutron effect. Good idea to use some amp modeling on the sound.

I used a real D6 clav for years, starting around 1981. Much later, I bought the Electro 3 primarily because its keyboard feel is so close to that of the clav, and the sounds are the first useable clav sounds I had heard. Even the keyboard range on the 3 is the same as on the clav. (Little did I know at the time that its other sounds would be so excellent as well.) The same clav sounds on the Stage2 73 don't come out quite as well as on the electro 3 because the keyboard feel is heavier and doesn't have that bounce.

Another of my favorite clavs song by Stevie Wonder is Higher Ground. That has two clavs, one with and one without Mutron 3.

If you are interested, I did a write-up some time ago describing the D6 clavinet. http://workrobot.com/music/clavinet.html

This may help you understand why the four Nord clav sounds are designated AC, BC, AD, and BD. Also note that the four bandpass filters on the Nords do not work like those on the clavinet; if they did, there would be no sound when all four were turned off. I wrote Nord to ask about that years back when I first got the Electro 3, but I don't think they understood what I was asking about or why it was important.

fwiw, I saw Stevie Wonder play live at Madison Square Garden for the "Secret Life of Plants" tour and he and his second keyboardist both used D6 clavs.
