I wonder if Clavia pays attention to that forum and I can expect them to make some fixed split bass/piano sounds

Hi whitenoise,
I am sure Clavia reads what users write about their products out there including in this forum, so they will be aware of this issue, so don't worry they will hear you!
Whether you can expect them to make e.g., Split Sounds, thats another issue depending on technical possibilities but also business and product strategy marketing etc.
Regarging the particular issue of split sounds for the NE, however, unfortunately I doubt that they will integrate this possibility into the instrument.
Firstly, playing e.g., an organ and piano at the same time is not mere sample playback, but rather two different sound engines and it might technically not feasible. Even if it were to be, as it was pointed out in this thread, multitimbrality is a NordStage Unique Selling Property, so even if it were possible, they might decide not to implement it (as e.g., in different Windows 7 editions).

However there is also some good news which is that you can always use the Sample Editor to create patches that have split sounds using your own samples or Nord Sample libraries (though not sure about the latter, i.e., wheter you can combine two Nord Samples into one Split Patch). While not the same as the built-in Organ and Piano Sounds (There is NO way of loading npno files in the Nord Sample editor!), I find that some Organ/Piano patches on the Nord Wave I played where quite decent in particular being only samples instruments. This work around should give you basic split patches to use with the NE.
Cheers! Johannes

thanks Johannes. It could be a work around. I assume the best way is to use mono bass samlpes on the left audio out and the upper keyboard part samples on the right channel. That should give even more flexibility with NE3 connection and sound control. I've found that video on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6rgEuyYzeE

Hi Guys,
I just made a Grand Piano/Bass split sound. The Bass PAN is shifted to the Right Channel, The Grand piano sound is shifted to the left channel. It provides the ability to control the volume and eq each sound separately. But if you need the same sound in both channels you may just use mono option available in NE3 sampler section.

You can download it from here nord-samples-forum-nsmp-user-samples--f14/split-samples-t679.html

mriddle wrote:IThe Sample Editor could do it but as far as I can tell, it only accepts .wav files. The Nord samples are not in that format. It would be nice if those sounds could open in the editor so you could spread some different sounds out across the keys. Maybe I'm wrong. Is there a way to get the Nord Samples into the Sample Editor?

I'm interested in the answer to this as well. I'm new to sample editing so I don't have much idea of what to do if I want to split samples on my keyboard with the sample editor. Especially because .wav is only accepted

How could you do that? I can't find any pan controls in Nord Sample Editor. Sorry for my english - I'm italian.

To shift the PAN you need to shift the notes samples PAN when you record them or shift it after in any audio editor. I recorded stereo .wav files with only one cable attached on my audio card (either right channel or left one). That makes a stereo file with shifted PAN.

Thank you very much! I'm trying to make a sample with B3 organ + Rhodes to play Time by Pink Floyd. When I sampled B3 I was only able to hear sounds from left channel - that's because when i recorded it I had attached the cable on my left output! OK I'll try to record Piano Rhodes from the right channel... but then how can I apply different effects to the sounds (for example different gain)?

If you want to have different effects you need to record note samples with that effect. You wont be able to change the effect once the final sample is loaded in Nord Electro using on-board effects. But you or your sound engineer can control equalization and gain of right and left channels separately using external sound mixer. You can also attach external effects box to the external mixer to add and control effects on left and right channels separately.

One advice about B3 sampling: since B3 has endless sustain - use loop option in sample editor.
