Nord Electro 4HP Pedal Problem - Please Help

Postby bellamckendree » 05 Feb 2017, 13:41

Hi there,

So I bought a Nord Electro 4 HP in July 2014 along with the Nord Sustain Pedal. For the first 2 years the pedal worked completely fine. I set the Sustain Pedal Polarity function to 'Closed' (under system menu 5) and the pedal would sustain if I pressed down and as soon as i lifted off it would not sustain. All great. The one thing was I had to always turn it off and on again for the pedal to work. But that was okay, not ideal but ok.

Then...

6 months ago it changed. Sometimes it sustains under 'closed' but then it might suddenly sustain everything even when I haven't changed the Sustain Pedal Polarity to 'Open'. Other times it doesn't work at all. Or it might work a bit then if i remove my foot from the pedal there's a long delay. I played a gig last night and it suddenly stopped sustaining completely which was a disaster..

I have a gig in 2 weeks so really need to get this sorted asap. People have recommended holding down the pedal as I turn the keyboard on but still that doesn't work. I've tried out 3 other pedals all various makes. Again all of them respond in the same unpredictable way as above. So clearly there's an issue with the settings in my keyboard. I have the manual here and have been through all the settings on the System Menu from 1-12. Everything is set how the manual has instructed me to. But perhaps there is something i have missed or my keyboard is broken in some way. Can anyone help me? It is officially driving me nuts.

Thank you. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Got a tester? Test the pedal. These are just a simple switch, not too much that can go wrong with it. It might be the cable causing an intermittent connection. Try bending the cable and see if the signal changes.
Also do not press the pedal when you are booting up the instrument. If I recall correct (in the NS2 at least) there is a boot time check of the pedal type (normally open or normally closed) so you do not want the OS to get confused.

Got a manual? Go into the Nord's System Menu and flip the setting for Sustain Pedal Type.
