Hello Nord Users,
I just picked up the Nord Electro4d last friday and somethings weird is happening. I bought a BOSS FS-5L pedal for sustain and rotor control. When I connect a plug to the sustain pedal all the keys start sustaining even when the cable isnt connected to the pedal. At first I thought I had a bad pedal, but it still sustains even when the cable is connected to the sustain output and not connected to the pedal. When I take the plug out of the sustain outlet it stops. So I know its not the pedal. What's causing this problem? I've tried messing with the sustain polarity in system options, pedal type etc. Tried almost everything.. Turning it on and off a bunch of times. Problem still persists. I updated to the latest OS. Its weird that if i just plug in a cable into the sustain it sustains... Please help!

Re: Nord electro 4d sustain problems.
I' m guessing a bad cable. Can you test the cable somewhere else ?
Most keyboards will recognize the type of cable or switch on start up.
I think my pedal is Boss FS5U. You have the latch version of the pedal.
Good Luck,

Re: Nord electro 4d sustain problems.
The default setting of the Nord is closed. A plain cable connected to the sustain pedal socket will present as an open, tricking the Nord into thinking that a sustain pedal is connected and that someone has their foot on the pedal full-time. This is normal and expected behavior.
And yes, the latching version of the pedal is a curious choice for sustain.

Re: Nord electro 4d sustain problems.
Hi,
Not sure if this will be any help to the OP now, a month and a half on... but the FS5U might have been a better choice for sustain. The 5L is a latching pedal, meaning that a single press and release turns sustain on, a second press and release turns it off. The U is a non-latching pedal - press down for on, release for off. Not sure in what polarity but, knowing boss, it's most likely either closed or switchable.
If you're using it for rotor control and you want it to latch, set the rotary option to hold - the latch on the pedal simulates holding the pedal down. If you set rotor pedal to latch with a latching pedal, you will need to press and release twice for the pedal to work consistently (in order to simulate the press/release that the Nord expects).

Re: Nord electro 4d sustain problems.
Hi, I received a Yamaha FC-3 pedal with my electro 4D and it's not compatible...any suggestions on good sustain pedal options for the 4D???

Re: Nord electro 4d sustain problems.
Any ordinary sustain pedal will work -- just stay away from the "fancy" ones. An ordinary sustain pedal will have a cable which terminates in mono (TS) connector, not stereo (TRS) connector as the Yamaha FC-3 does. The person who packaged that pedal with the instrument was quite mistaken.

Re: Nord electro 4d sustain problems.
I just tested the following petals in my electro 3.
A Yamaha FC – 4
Hey Roland FS – 5U
Kurzweil piano style pedal made in Italy, probably a generic
Kurzweil little square foot pedal also probably a generic but labeled with the Kurzweil brand name
All these pedals work just fine with my electro three, Although the polarity does have to be changed in the Nord to accommodate whatever pedal you decide to use.
The roland footpedal also has a polarity switch on it.
Which I would think would make it more suitable for variety of keyboards.
