Nord Electro 3 Transpose Question

Postby tweedy » 18 May 2010, 04:24

Quick question regarding the Electro 3. I am considering this for next keyboard purchase, but I am wondering if you can transpose the keyboard up and down in half tones and if so how is this accomplished? (i.e. Is it a simple button press or is it buried in a menu setting?)

Thanks in advance.

The manual states: "Any settings that you change in the System, MIDI or Sound menu will take immediate effect on a global basis, and will be stored until you change
them the next time. Enter the menus by pressing and holding Shift and the System, MIDI or Sound button (Prog A, Prog B or Live). Select a function
with the Up/Down buttons and change the setting by pressing and holding Shift and the Up or Down button
. Exit the menus by pressing a second
time on the Prog A, B or Live button."

I should be getting my E3 this evening, so I can't answer how easy it is. But if nothing has changed from the E2, it is very easy & quick to transpose in a live situation.

It's pretty simple once you know how, however it doesn't have a button labeled "transpose". You hit shift, system then go to parameter 3 and toggle up and down by semitones.

I think there is 2 flaws in the Nord Electro 3. It sounds fantastic thou.
Problem 1: You should be able to assign a key to the transpose. It is a little bit to tricky to find the menues.
And 2: Why isn't your transpose setting saved when you make your own patch? Idiotic!

I have had my Nord Electro 3 repaired because of a hardware issue, and now when the transpose is on 0 my C key plays an Eb (so actually at -4 a C is a C). Can anyone help to resolve this?

Hello bengeringh,
I'm sorry to hear of your difficulties.
Does your Nord do this with all sounds?

Was your Nord professionally repaired?

If it was by an authorized service center, I'd go back.

Either way, you should start by contacting Nord technical support.

Please post back and let us know how this resolves.

Cheers, Hanon

Transposing on the fly at a gig is a royal pain in the rear. I love my E3, but let's be honest...unlike most keyboards I have owned or played, the Nord doesn't have a one button Transpose feature.
It is NOT easy to do between songs on a dim stage. Too bad there isn't one set of "wildcard" buttons with which one could program in whatever one wanted.
This, and the fact that you can't split between organ and piano sounds, really limit what elsewise would be an excellent product.

The Electro 3's transpose implementation works fine, however it can be a little cumbersome to access - especially if you're on a dim stage or panicking in between tunes!

The Electro 2 was easier as the transpose setting could be accessed in a single step.

Oh well, it's a good reason to learn your scales and practise playing in different keys.
I'm getting there slowly, and still use transpose on some songs, but realise that it's more satisfying to be able to play tunes and solo throughout the keyboard.

Cheers,
James

Hi Hanon,

Nord itself actualy reacted to my post so that was great!! They have helped me to fix the issue, so everything is back to normal now.

Thank a lot to Nord Technical Support of being so Pro-Active!

Greetings,

Bob
