I use my NP (1) exactly like anotherscott described: I just take piano/e-piano from it and I am very happy with it. It's a very professional tool for a that kind of use. But I've been critisizing the new NP 2 for its "development": instead of improving NP's piano features they put there sample player which is not same professional quality IMO.
Problem is that both NE3 HP and NP2 take a step towards all-in-one keyboard but fail to fulfill this task. Now they are more close to NS2 but VERY far to be effective. I can imagine that there will be many quite unsatisfied new users who find out those limits (in fact a friend of mine asked me few days ago that "how can I put those strings under piano sound in NE3 HP?". I had to tell him that it's impossible). If I could choose, I'd give those products a own identity. Now they come closer and closer to each other.

What piano features would you like improved? (Other than new piano/EP sounds, which does not require a new model, that would be addressed by just coming out with new samples to load into the old one, as they periodically do anyway.) The action also can't really be much improved as long as they are buying their actions from Fatar... I don't think they make anything that feels better, except possibly something that would make the board a lot heavier.

Re: Nord Electro 3 HP vs Nord Piano 2
(Taken from the Wish list -thread: )
I. for the piano:
1. A better keyboard with full repetition possibilities (of course) - there was a discussion about harder or softer touch; I take it that most piano-oriented players wish for a harder touch in *this* Nord instrument (more specialized than Stage and Electro). In any case a better action is top on the list for many.
1a. More possibilities to adjust the velocity curve.
2. Alternative tunings (including at least one user temperament)
3. Even more RAM (of course)
...I'd add to that:
4."external panel" for controlling external MIDI devices.
5. Dynamic range -parameter
6. Preset volume settings
