Nord Electro 3 HELP - intermittent patch loss?

Postby nateholt75 » 04 Dec 2010, 04:36

I bought my Electro 3 in May 2010 after borrowing an Electro 2 for a few months, and of course I love it. I've replaced sounds with others that I've downloaded, organized how I want them, set the effects etc. Lately I'm experiencing an issue where I'll turn it on and the only patches I get are organ patches.. the pianos and samples I have on it do not sound. The effects settings will remain as is in their memory locations - for example, in 4b I have a rhodes with chorus, amp setting (twin) and some equalization - all those come up in 4b but the piano itself does not. When this happens it also seems like the organ patch loses some volume. I take very good care of it, and don't bang it around, though I do gig quite a bit. I did open it up and checked the ribbon cable connections - I didn't do much else since I don't want to void the warranty - then I powered it back on and the sounds were back. This seems to correct the issue each time, but it continues to happen. Being that I gig so often, it's always part of my rig and I can't afford to be without it or I'd just have Sweetwater get it fixed for me as it should still be under warranty. I may have to but wanted to check on here first to see what I could find out.

I would like to know if anyone else has experienced anything like this? It's not like memory is getting erased, since all my effects/equalization settings will come up in the right memory location ,as well as show up properly in sound manager, even if they aren't sounding through the nord at the time.

Any help/suggestions/solutions would be welcome.

Thanks all!!!

It could be due to a defective unit. You should return it.

Thanks for the replies - I called Sweetwater and am waiting for the sales guy to get back to me. I suppose that's one way to handle it but I'd really like to know what is defective, especially since this didn't happen for several months and is just now happening. It's great if I can return it but if this would happen when the board is out of warranty it would benefit me to know what the fix is. I'm also not sure what I'm going to do if I do end up returning it because I gig at least one day out of every weekend of the month, as well as rehearsing 2-3 times a week -- I use this board in every band I'm in, and every gig I play. Hopefully I can get something worked out.. I'll probably go ahead and email tech support directly and maybe they can at least tell me what is going on even if I have to return it.

Hi
I presume that the pianos and samples are still in the unit, the Model LED are stil displaying numbers when you select a piano or sample program.

If you have accidentally connected a sustain pedal to the control pedal input, and have the Control Pedal setting in the System Menu (item #10) set to P, the pianos and samples will not sound. Check the System Menu settings first and see if changing this to "O" (organ) helps, and remove any connector at the control pedal input..
