ne3 factory restore issue

Postby realgtrhero » 22 Apr 2015, 20:20

Hi! I wanted share an issue I had and the workaround I found for it. So..... I had a message on the screen of my ne3 that said "PNO ERR". It would go away when i would press a button and it would work fine but, since it was not normal, I wanted it gone. I connected it to my computer but my computer didn't see the ne3. Turns out, I had to press a button on the ne3 to make the error message go away before it could connect the usb port. Once in Nord Sound Manager, I noticed Electric Grand CP80 said "broken-invalid checksum" in the notes section. I deleted it and did a factory restore with the current version on the Nord site. Same problem occurred. I thought for a minute and figured I could grab the single file from the site. Success!!! It was a newer version of Electric Grand CP80 so I guess it was fixed at some point. I hope Nord sees this and fixes the factory file online. Apparently, this is a common issue in the research I've done. Hope this helps someone out there. Cheers!

I've used the website download of the NE3 factory backup recently and had no issues. It could be that your instrument simply hiccupped.

I've got a ne4d which my mac doesnt want to acknowledge. New mac; no error message on ne4. Usb connected fine and I don't think any updates are open. Any ideas?

Why would you hide your inquiry in this unrelated thread? Surely more people will see it if you start your own thread...

What programs are you running which do not recognize the Nord? Have you tried Nord Sound Manager? Any DAWs? Midi Monitor from Snoize?

Bless,

Pablo

This has happened to me twice, exactly as you described it on my NE3HP.

I haven't found a fix yet.

I reinstalled the latest OS, freed up a little storage space, and cleaned the deleted space.

Maybe that will help.

Thanks,

Tom

I encountered the "Pno Err" last evening with my NE3 HP at a gig. I have version 3.14 of the OS.

I had recently done what seemed like a successful factory restore, using the Nord Electro 3 HP Factory Restore v1.0 revA (246.7 MB) file (because the download page said "For Nord Electro 3 HP":
http://www.nordkeyboards.com/sites/default/files/files/sound-libraries/product-libraries/nord-electro-3/Nord%20Electro%203%20HP%20Factory%20Restore%20v1.0%20revA.neb

It worked ok at home, but not at the gig. All piano voices were lost except for Clavinet and a Yamaha DX7 EP I had downloaded to replace one of the Rhodes voices. Organ was fine. All other samples were fine.

In retrospect, it's possible I had not turned the NE3 off and back on again after the factory restore (that is, until I turned it on at the gig...shame on me).

I hooked it up to my PC today and the Sound Manager told me that all of the broken pianos were broken (invalid checksum), and to delete them and restart the instrument.
Doing that got rid of the Pno Err; the broken Piano slots were now just empty Piano slots.

Rather than trying to restore each Piano individually, I just did another Factory Restore, but this time trying the Nord Electro 3 Factory Restore v3.0 revA (247.0 MB) file:
http://www.nordkeyboards.com/sites/default/files/files/sound-libraries/product-libraries/nord-electro-3/Nord%20Electro%203%20Factory%20Restore%20v3.0%20revA.neb

That worked. I turned the power on and off several times, and it continued to work after reboot.

My conclusion is that I used the wrong file with the first restore (because the web site said to use that for the the HP). I am awaiting official word from Nord about this.
