NE 4D sound quality

Post by pp3f4577 »

Hello everybody,

Can anyone tell me why I can't get the same sound quality through my NE4D as I can hear in video demos (cf. youtube) ?
For instance, the sound of e.pianos coming from the stereo outputs of my NE4D to my home sudio speakers (Alesis M1) is rather poor ? while my Korg PA4X sounds very well ...
I've tried to equalize the fréquences but nothing better.
It's the same with npno sounds that sound well with the Nord Stage. Is it due to the electronic of the NE4D ?

Great thanks for your help !

How do you amplify your NE4? (which outputs)
Do you amplify stereo? If so, do you pan fully the 2 channels in opposite directions?
Does it sound OK with headphones?
Mono button OFF?
Is it always with pianos that does not sound right?

HI!
Thank you for your interest.
Yes I amplify stereo. But I don't know how to pan the 2 channels.... is it something to in the NE4D ? or with a mixer ?
It is the same with headphones.
I spoke of e-pianos because it's more evident with them . The other sounds are a bit better.
I find that most of the sounds (except flute, vibraphone, celesta, etc ...) are a bit "dirty", not so clean. Purity, clearness are missing.
So, I will try to connect the NE4D to another amplifier and let you know about the difference.

Cheers !

The panning is important if you are using a mixer and connect the output to mono channels. If you connect each speaker to a different output it should be fine. Same with headphones, some bad quality adaptors sometimes short one of the signals (becoming mono) resulting in a poor sound.
Have you played with the equaliser settings? That makes a lot of difference and can bring a lot of presence to the pianos.
I do not know the speakers you mention, somebody here might do.

Hello !

I've tried to connect the NE4D to JBL amplified studio monitor.
The result is , according to me, a little better, but still not at the top.
I find that the frequency scale of certain sounds is not wide enough.
I will now work on more precise equalization on the keyboard.
One never knows.

Thanks !

Maybe a defective unit? I have a 4D too, and I love it! I wish i could play as good as the demos...
