Midi to Wavestation from Electro 5

Postby jgmathieu » 04 Feb 2018, 20:22

Trying to get sounds from the Electro5 blended with WS sound module. I only get the WaveStation sounds. Anybody know the midi settings so I can hear both instruments? Also..I can I split up the keyboard to hear the WS on the lower register and Nord sounds on the upper?

Impossible to understand what is that you are doing and what are you trying to do.
Please try again and explain exactly what is connected to what and how you are trying to control what.

manual page 14, "scenario 2: Nord Electro 5 sending MIdI on Part Upper in KB split mode"

Not easily. The only variation of this Nord really supports is the opposite... Nord sound on lower, WS sound on upper, as described above. That said, you can coax out some other combinations, with limitations. At least one way comes to mind... the lower section will transmit MIDI on the global channel, and it will do so even if you have a "silent" sound enabled on the Nord itself (for example, an organ sound with all the drawbars at zero), so that could give you a WS sound (by itself) on the lower. I don't think there's a way to prevent the Upper keys from sending on that channel as well, so then you'd have to program your WS sound to ignore notes outside your desired range. I think also the WS will probably see your (Upper) sustain pedal presses, even if you have the sustain pedal turned off for lower. Maybe someone else who has experimented with this can give you more definitive information. But the short version is, Nord only built in specific support for the Upper part to trigger external MIDI devices, not Lower.

Thanks, I will try this out. But still....trying to get sounds from WS-SR and Nord together. Here is my hook-up: Midi Out from Nord to Midi In on WS-SR. Output from WS to amp. Shouldn't I be able to hear both sound sources with the proper midi configuration? I can't seem to break this down any easier than this. Does anybody out there use an external sound module with their Electro? If so, are you hearing 2 separate sounds together? I just need to know the midi configuration on the Nord to make this possible. If it can't be done, that's ok too.
Thanks for the replies.

MIDI is only a musical note language to the other device, so you'll have to connect the Nord's audio output to the amp as well.

Problem solved and I do need a mixer or separate output for this to work. Thought it could be midi assignable. Thanks for the good feedback on this....Joe M

QnD solution: Connect the output from the WS to the E5 monitor input and use the E5 headphones output to connect to PA or similar (or if You actually want to play through headphones).
Requires the right cables to get separated Right/Left if You want to connect to PA, but nothing really far out...
