Layered piano

Postby Lee Batchelor » 03 Jul 2017, 16:25

Hi team,

I wish to play a Latin style piano using octaves. Trouble is, I suck at playing octave piano, so I want to layer a piano on the lower part and one on the upper. The upper would be raised the octave so when I press one key, two notes are triggered but separated by one octave. The Upper part shows a piano, but I can’t seem to layer a piano there. The red light just flashes. Of course, the manual is a useless. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Hello,
You cannot have two pianos in a program, only one.
You could use a piano sound from your synth section and transpose it. Only the Nord stage can have 2 piano from the piano section using two slots.

Okay, thanks Daniel. So, the "Piano" label in the Upper part is only for a Piano from the Synth selection? Makes me wonder why they would put the Piano label there in the first place...very confusing.

You can use a piano from the piano section in the upper part or in the lower part, but not in both parts in the same program.

Ah...that explains it. Thanks.

So, I could use any "Synth" part in the upper, containing the old Kord M1 piano voice (for example). Gee, maybe it's time for a Stage 3 :)!

I have used the ridiculously flexible layering and split capability in my Roland synth, not just to layer octaves, but even to allow me to fire off 3-part chords by pressing a single key on a PK5A footpedal MIDI controller. I realize my requirements are not normal, but this is one reason why I will always have a Roland synth to supplement my Electro. I might trade up from my Electro 3 to an Electro 5 or a Stage at some point so gain more split capability in the Nord part of my rig, but neither of these will be able to duplicate the insanity I do on my Roland.

True of layers, not true of splits.
