Keyboard problem

Postby Mikeynod » 18 May 2011, 22:47

Hello all, new to this forum but already picked up some useful stuff.

Wonder if you can suggest anything I might be able to do about a problem I'm having with the A key (above middle C) on my Electro 3. It seems to work fine when the organ sounds are selected but when I switch over to piano/sample library the key only works if you apply a lot of pressure.

I've recently changed to OS 3.00 if that makes any difference.

Any suggestions very welcome!

Cheers ad have fun!

Hi Mikeynod,
there has been a couple of posts about this problem: nord-electro-forum-f9/key-velocity-problem-t721.html
No real helpful solutions other than contacting Nord support.

Ultimately, I believe the problem is debris fouling in one of the two contacts per key.

There are several tutorials on how to clean these yourself but... This would probably require disassembly to perform, and surely void your warranty if you still have one.

For information purpose only "I'm not encouraging you to grab a screwdriver and dig in", I'm including this video. The Nord has a very similar contact system:

Hello
I was very interested to see the video about changing the faulty rubber contact. I had the same problem as you, but did not want to send the keyboard back for repair, even though it is still in warranty. I telephoned Nord and they told me that the problem would almost certainly be caused by dirt or dust under the contactor. They told me how to fix it, and it was very easy to do, when you know how. Basically, you just remove the metal cover, lift the relevant key and clean with a bit of cooton wool. It worked for me.
If you want a more detailed description, please let me know.

Good Luck

Chaps,

Just a quick update: Plucked up the courage to take the covers off and had a bit of a poke around the key with a cotton bud. Couldn't see an easy way of removing the key in its entirety but cleaned where I could get to.

After putting it back together and getting plugged in it seems that it's done the trick so hopefully it'll be ok now.

Thanks for your help.

Cheers
