How to set expression pedal preference

Postby pianodog » 21 Apr 2017, 22:11

I am absolutely brand-new to all things Nord. I inherited an Electro 2 Sixty-One. I'm trying to get an expression pedal to work with it. But with a Yamaha FC7 and a Korg pedal, I get only a single bump in volume, not a swell. Is there a way to adjust this? I've seen references to setting a preference in the system settings, but I don't know how to access those. Like I said, brand-new to the Nords.

Download a copy of the manual from the Nord website. It expressly states that Yamaha not suitable for NE2. Roland EV-5 is a good choice.

I had to get 2 stereo Y cables and reverse them to get the full range of my FC7 working with my Novation SL 61 MK II - kludgy but it works. This is a known issue with the 2 types of expression pedal potentiometers. Polarity reversal is the cheap fix.

The FC7 works nicely on the Electro 5. I suppose it doesn't on the older models :(?

Works nicely on almost all older models, as well, FC7 compatibility has been there since Nord Electro 3 and Nord Stage Classic, of the NE/NS families only NE2 is non compatible.

I have a brand new Nord 5D61 and connected my Yamaha FC7 pedal to the control pedal port but it does NOT effect any volume of a sound!
I selected the Yamaha FC7 in the system settings too and have set its gain on 10 and I see 0 tot 100% going when I push the pedal but NO EFFECT on the output volume!

What do I do wrong?? Or is something wrong with my Nord??

Hi Peter,

Is your FC7 plugged into the Control Pedal port? Does it work on another keyboard? Perhaps you could take it to the music store where you bought your Nord, and try it on a few Yamaha or other Nord keyboards - just to rule out a pedal malfunction.

Have you activated/assigned the pedal to the effect you want? For example, activate it as a control for upper or lower? Hit shift and then select ctrpded using the octave shift buttons. Hope this helps.

You need to... open the manual at page 5 http://www.nordkeyboards.com/sites/defa ... on%20D.pdf

where it explains that you need to activate the CTRL PED on the Part where you want it to control the Volume.

(PS: usually a gain of 1-2 max is OK with FC7)

I am having similar issues with a new N5 and a new Boss FV500L.. even modulation is NOT happening even with CTRL PED on the Part. Changed cables; nothing. Used pedal on another machine; works. Checked gain; modulation is either 2 or 90...

I pulled jack in and out at various depths and found if seated partially in the jack the modulation is even and fine... seems to me like a problem with the Nord jack... not happy.
