Good Piano Sample?

Post by dre »

hey guys,
i got me a ne3 and im happy with everything apart from the piano samples. i actually find it very disrespectful from nord to offer such cheap samples. everything else is to a high standard. anyone know how to tweak the latest grand piano sample to make it sound like an exeptable piano sound?

Did you download the version 5 pianos. I use 2 and 3 medium. I tweak the equalizer and save to program. Also PH has a good acoustic piano that is very 'tweakable', I use that one also for live performance. The version 5 electric pianos are awesome.

i downloaded Grand Lady D (Steinway Model D) large which is ok. but never as good as roland fantom or others. really disappointed with the piano samples. you think 2 or 3 are better?

Yes, I liked the Yamaha Grand better, 2 and 3. Make sure you equalize as needed. Also, try the sample piano on the 'synth class' by Pontus Henrikson.

I think that the piano sound on the electro 3 sounds nothing less than perfect. You can even hear how the strings of the grand piano vibrate. My favorite is the Studio Grand 1 (C7 Conservatory Grand) which is from the Nord Piano Library v5. What kind of sound system do you use? I noticed that it is quite hard to hear the quality of one sound if your sound system is crappy. Especially for the grand piano sounds it is very tricky. This is an acoustical instrument. I have a AKG K 121 head set and when I play and use the headset it sounds just perfect but if you listen through an amp the electric piano sound very good most of the simple library sounds are also good and so on but, the grand piano sound is so different than what I hear through the head set I think it is all how good sound system do you have?

hello and sorry for my English translated online.
Definitely confirm, there is no comparison:
I play in NE3 sony home stereo system, though excellent, and misjudged the sounds of the piano while I loved the organ in an almost manic, then live on stage with 600 watts and fbt 'a whole other thing, veras plans tail, wall, or electric are almost the best.

NE3 try to use with good sound system and tell us at our forum.
Remember that this is 'a best keyboard 'and' how to have a powerful and beautiful cars turn into the column in the center ...... lol

i do love the ne3. but there must be something wrong with my head phones or my roland kc 550. when i play my roland v combo vr 760 or my roland fantom x6 the piano sounds are so much better that i cant believe that nord even dared to put out a sample like they did. but i will try the grand 1. see if i like it better.

I got my NE3 yesterday. I have similar experience as some others. I like almost everything, except the pianos. Previously I used K-sounds Steinway D on my Motif ES (which I really like) but I expected the NE3 pianos to be better than that. I found several samples in the piano library which I like, but still something is unnatural for me. I listened a lot in detail and found that probably the decay, for the key release is too short. I have no access to real piano soon, so cannot check it, probably it is authentic. I found no way to alter these properties of the piano library instruments. What do you think?
The other disappointment was, that however the v5 library samples (mid and large) contain string resonance samples, the Electro cannot use it. According to the description, that is the only difference between the different sized samples. So is it correct, that it makes no sense to use samples other than the small? It is contradictory that Nord puts a medium sized piano sample in the factory to the memory. Can somebody explain this?
On the other hand, I find the Harpsichord so real (including the key release), that now I have to find a way to use it. I know, it is against the rules :)

Hi,

the quality of the Nord AP is widely discussed as compared to other AP sounds, in particular, the "big Three" Romplers.
Personally, I came to peace with the Lady Grand for Jazz/Classic and the C7 for Rock settings but I always use some EQing.
Regarding the Sample size, you should definitively use the MEDIUM samples as not only String resonance is left out in the small ones but also Pedal Down Samples!! Which is really a huge difference IMHO. Try both samples when playing using the pedal and you will hear a big difference!
With the E3 you have at least a sweepable mid at your EQ so maybe you can found a setting that works for you. But regarding the attack/release settings, there is nothing one can do. Good luck!!
Johannes
