I had an Electro 5D61 for a while and I noticed that the 'vintage 122' rotary sim in the Electro 5 incorporates a fair amount of noise (perhaps to simulate worn tubes) and it accents the higher frequencies while deemphasizing the bass. Some folks obviously like that a lot, but i didn't care for it, which is why I sold mine.
I'm interested in whether or not the Electro 4 'vintage 122' rotary sim sounds the same in terms of noise floor and frequency response as that of the Electro 5. Does anyone have knowledge of this? And if so, I'd appreciate whatever information you can give me.

Re: Electro 5 rotary sim compared to Electro 4 sim question.
Can anyone who has upgraded from an Electro 4 to an Electro 5 answer my question

The Electro 4 has a much cleaner Leslie sound. I still own both. You are not the first to sell your Electro 5 because of Nord's (to me) inexplicable choice to omit a clean Leslie sound. Good luck.

I'm afraid there is no way to get that clean NE4D leslie sound on the NE5D :/
It's been argued here that the real leslie cabinet has this sound, there is no "zero" distorsion, so the NE5D maybe is closer to the real thing that way.
Nevertheless NE4D was more versatile sound wise ... a clean leslie was possible !

Thanks for the reply, and the information! I've been considering picking up a used Electro 4 as a replacement.
Before I sold my E5, I contacted Clavia and was told that there were no plans to change the new rotary or provide an alternate choice (like the previous rotary model).
It's too bad really, since there are so many big improvements in the E5. It would unquestionably have been the best Electro by far, but the rotary is a deal breaker IMO .

That argument doesn't hold water.
I purchased a brand new Leslie 122 RV tone cabinet back in the day. While it's definitely true that there's no 'zero' distortion, my Leslie produced a MUCH cleaner sound than the new rotary in the Electro 5.
I've had many Hammonds and Leslies since. The only way you'd get as much distortion out of a Leslie (as there is in the E5 rotary) when you're going for a clean sound (not overdriving it), is if the Leslie is out of spec and not properly maintained, with worn tubes, failing components, etc. 'Vintage' doesn't equate with noisy.
With previous Electros we were able to add overdrive to a clean sound if we wanted that effect. Not so with the Electro 5.

I hope one day it will be possible to setup our boards with different settings like that, and why not load different effects or simulations, from the Nord Sound Manager software ...

What they did to the Clavs is just as bad, IMHO. The E4 modeled the different pickups much better.

Re: Electro 5 rotary sim compared to Electro 4 sim question.
Well, I got an Electro 4SW 73 today, and it's a FAR better organ sound than that of the Electro 5 because there's no appreciable noise from the rotary effect (unless you want to add it) and there's a much more balanced sound, with good bass response, unlike the top heavy sound of the Electro 5.
It's a real shame and I hated selling my E5, but if you play left hand bass with jazz organ, like I sometimes do, the E5 just can't cut it. And the noisy rotary gets old pretty fast in exposed passages.
To be fair, if you play in a loud band, or if organ isn't a big part of what you do, then you're likely to love the Electro 5 for all that it CAN do well.
