you have to add the missing feature of playng the lower organ manual via MIDI from the features present in electro 4 and missing on 5 ( a real deal breaker IMHO).

Missing feature #2 is the lack of the sustain pedal mode that allows you to use a single pedal for piano sustain or organ rotor. As things stand, I need to carry around two separate pedals now, or fork out £80+ for the half moon rotor switch. Neither option is that appealing. I can see why this feature has vanished as it does present some issues when you are dealing with a bi-timbral organ/piano patch. With only one pedal, do you use it for sustain or rotor? However, I would have though that the feature could have been retained with a little ingenuity in implementing the sustain pedal modes, for example:
  • sustain only
  • sustain/rotary - sustain priority (i.e. use as sustain only on piano program when present)
  • sustain/rotary - rotary priority (i.e. use as rotary only on organ program when present)

This is the one feature I really miss from my Electro 4. Like others have said, it is there on the Stage version. I think everyone knows that when using a layered sound they will have to prioritise their way of best utilising their sustain pedal(s) but at least put it as an option in the system menu.

Now that the electro has these new features it would be Terriffic if you could use the sustain for both features. The electro that I have has a dedicated Leslie button that would enable you to use one pedal in a pinch.

Agree with Rdanl that it is a big disappointment that the Electro 5 cannot play dual manual organ via midi from an external lower manual controller. As a dual manual organ the E5 is monotimbral like the previous Electros. Dual manual organ plus piano or sample synth is not possible with the current OS. Let's hope Nord can upgrade it.

On that subject of using multiple "Pedals" for the new Nord 5s ... well, if one has multi-Nords in their set-up ... how many pedals can "FIT under on the floor? Two Control pedals; two sustain/Rotor pedals already ..." that is plenty! Set Up & Packing up takes enough time let alone the occasional plugging them in wrong and thinking what's wrong - until I realize I mixed them up! Ha!!

At least one can hit the "rotary button" if a pedal fails, is lost or missing - whatever. It just seems to make sense for us owners who pay a decent up there price for a Nord instrument ... for Nor to take two steps forward & few, if not "no," steps back. I'd rather make the choice myself. I really LIKE that one pedal can be configured/coded in the older Electros to do both. I agree, a pedal is cheap, but I only have "TWO" feet.

Not being a Stage owner - please explain their pedal concept as mentioned in the above posts. I want to upgrade - but I'm gladly waiting until later this year. Time to work out any bugs & or kinks! Thanks!

You could try adding a 2nd switch & cable to the pedal. There are also these already made:

I guess that the same thing could be in principle done with a control pedal and a dual pot.

It seems that Clavia plans to fix it in an upcoming update :

rajbooth wrote:I The set list feature on the NE5 is excellent and the method of creating a new song and assigning programs to it is just about slick as as it could be given the limitations imposed by the user interface. It's OK for creating one or two songs, but if you have tried to create 2 or 3 new set lists for scratch, each with 20 - 30 songs, then it quickly becomes a massive chore. This is where a set list editor would come in very handy, and it would have been easy to add this to the Sound Manager. But it's not there!

Got my NE5 since Monday and I used it for a gig yesterday. Totally agree with rajbooth about the need for a set list editor. I have another wish: the possibility to easily preview the next song without changing the sounds of the actual one. Handy for knowing what the next tune is, and to get ready, particularly when there is no gap between two songs. Actually, you can do it by pressing shift and list/view, but it's a bit tricky. So for now, don't imagine that the set list feature will dispense yourself from the good old paper checklist.

Very good keyboard anyway !

Hey all.

I've only been playing with my Electro 5 for a few hours, and haven't even had time to fully explore it. However, I've read the manual and a bunch of forum posts, and here are my concerns so far:

1. Where do I adjust the filters for the Clav settings? You know, brilliant, treble, etc. Without those, it's not really a Clav.

2. Is there still a "MIDI Split" mode that allows both manuals of an organ patch to be played simultaneously with a second MIDI keyboard? Haven't had a chance to try yet, but I also don't see it mentioned in the manual. This makes me nervous. Again, it's not a virtual organ unless you can play both manuals.

Those are really my only two concerns so far. New effects sound great. Even the old ones sound slightly improved maybe? Love the attack and envelope controls!

Like others have suggested, both of these complaints could and SHOULD be fixed by an OS update. Every organ the Electro models has two manuals. Anyone who's used to playing the real thing, whether it's a B3 or a Continental, is very likely to make incorporating both manuals INTEGRAL to his playing.

And the clav — While I use that model the least of all of them, I currently can only recreate a tiny fraction of the sounds possible on a real D6, which will only make it significantly LESS USEFUL... And yet there's a DEDICATED BUTTON for it on the front panel. It just doesn't make sense.

I just sold my E4 to buy an E5, but unless I have reason to believe this problem is going to be addressed in the near future via and OS update, I think I will have to purchase an E4 again. Two of the Electro's signature simulations have LOST features. Layering two sounds is not worth losing basic functionality.

Nord have mercy!
