Guys, I need to tell you a story about my beloved NE5D73.
A couple of days ago, I set up the Electro to play at the service of my brother's silver wedding ceremony. I put it on an x-type quicklok stand. Unfortunately, the stand wasn't set up correctly (by myself, so no one to blame...). When I was setting up my PA system, I heard a crash and the stand had collapsed with the keyboard landing on top of the then folded stand, leaving two ugly scars in the bottom cover of the keyboard (see attached pictures). A couple of heavy heartbeats later, I rescued the Electro, set up the stand again, this time correctly and put the keyboard on it. Then I powered it up and it worked as if nothing had happened. Looking from above, you couldn't tell that anything had happened, even no scratch in the "holy" woooden parts. I have used the Electro a couple of times since without any problem. But I'd like to ask anyway if it would be a good idea to open the cover to check if there might be some electrical problem that might arise in the future. Has anybody of you ever opened up the bottom cover? Is there enough insulation so that I don't need to worry about short circuits or something? Would be happy to hear your advice.
Greetings, Richard, still happy NE5 user

Ah... that's awful. You can't open the bottom. In other words, you have to open it up from the top.
There are some youtube video's explaining how to open up the Electro.
If you don't trust it doing it yourself, contact a dealer or specialist!
Good luck!

Re: Built like a tank...
In the end you were lucky that it still works. Maybe I would open it to check if the bumps are close to some circuitry and need hammering back. Maybe the bumps are just beneath the keyboard.
Something else, to avoid happening it again, you can use a belt or nylon strap on the top tubes, so the X stand cannot open beyond the normal position, even if the lock fails .

Safety straps...what a great idea, Mr. G!!!!!!! Thanks for sharing.
I too had one time where that stupid pin didn't engage all the way. Fortunately, I discovered it before putting my Tyros 5 on it!! From then on, I've always set up the stand, and then placed most of my full weight on the tubes and given them a good shake to make sure nothing was amiss. Thanks to your idea, I'm getting some straps made up .

Yes, I would have the technician of your local store to check it to make sure. Nothing happened to your Electro, so, no need to take the risk to damage it in doing something wrong...Good idea for the straps but the very few times I used an X Stand, I was so scared that what happened to you could happen that I've always been using for years a platform stand....

Re: Built like a tank...
Well, I'm afraid that there is one problem with the F# key just above the deep bump. It sounds a lot softer than the other keys and it seems to hit the top of the case when released. Next, I will try to open up the case and see what I can do myself. I'm quite confident about that since I'm working in a technical job and have done electronics for a long time. In case I cannot fix it, I'm going to find some shop here in Germany that can do it.
Thanks for your advice,
greetings, Richard

Hi Richard, I'm wondering if this could be a structural issue more than electronic. Could that dent be hindering the key travel? You'll find out when you open the case, but if it is, it might be an easy fix by flattening the dent out of the case. Any experience in auto body work?

Re: Built like a tank...
Guys,
I managed to open the unit without any problems. As far as I can tell, the main board and the power supply board as well as the user interface board (which is attached to the upper shell) don't have any electrical issues like short circuits or similar.
Probably, it really is a mechanical or structural problem. The keybed is screwed to the bottom shell via a plastic frame. Maybe the bump has flexed the structure a little bit so that the velocity sensor (which consists of two rubber bubbles that are pressed by each key slightly after one another) doesn't work correctly. My next plans are to remove the keybed completely and hammer the bumps back into place as much as possible. Current problem is that the keybed is connected to the main board with three ribbon cables. Two of them are quite wide and can be disconnected from the main board without any problem. But the third one is only 6 wires wide and I didn't manage to disconnect it on either side. Didn't want to use too much force.
Maybe one of you has done it before (perhaps on another nord keyboard) and can tell me how to do it.
Would be very happy to hear from you.
Btw, pictures will follow. It's too dark now and I need to prepare a couple of things for my son's 5th birthday tomorrow.
Greetings, Richard
