5D - activating memory ability
I just bought an Electro 5D and love it but am amazed at the lack of info in its manual. In that 24-page manual, I cannot see *detailed* instructions for how to activate the memory and therefore store changes to the programs. Really hoping someone on this forum knows. Thank you!!

Re: 5D - activating memory ability
Mr. G, Yes, I have that manual, but it says nothing about how to do it, just that it can be done. It just says "Set to Off". Well, that doesn't help me. No button or know I push changes the setting. Maybe the problem is that, looking at the skimpy manual, I don't even know how to get to "Memory Protect" from the System button. Pushing the system button multiple times, or using one of the knobs above, does not help. Could you please give me step by step instructions? I'm quite surprised that there is not a more descriptive manual. Thanks!

Press SHIFT+SYSTEM.
The functions underneath the buttons are accessed with the SHIFT+button press. I would be surprised if that is not explained early in the manual.
Edit: yes, as I thought, it is in the manual, in page 4:
Buttons are used for turning functions on and off and switching between different settings. Many
buttons serve multiple purposes, in which case a second function will be described under the
button, and is accessed by pressing SHIFT.

Re: 5D - activating memory ability
Hi ReadyPlayerOne,
Admittedly, the manual is short and to the point. Reading casually it is sometimes easy to miss important points. For the most part, Nord does not waste very much space on the page. If they've taken the trouble to write something, chances are pretty good that it's important.
On Page 16 of the manual, Chapter 5 entitled MENUS, 2nd sentence of first paragraph:
"Menu items are scrolled by using the MENU dial, and values changed by turning the same dial while pressing SHIFT."
Twenty words, easily overlooked, massively important to knowing/learning how to use this instrument.
In this specific instance, Memory Protect function is right up front, Page One of the System Menu. As soon as you enter that menu you are already on the correct page to change that setting. Notice that once you are on the menu the display reads, in pertinent part:
Shift+Dial to Change
These kinds of questions are not uncommon. My belief is that folks who are new to Nord are temporarily blinded by this newness. At first it is difficult to see the trees for the forest. Over time you will gain increased familiarity with the instrument and these sorts of things will come more clearly into focus. Meanwhile, it can be a good idea to read the manual SLOWLY and with a yellow highlighter marker in hand and mark these little tidbits of extremely important info.
Bless,
Pablo

Hi Willie,
I'm not sure why you have buried your question in this other thread where it is not likely to be very visible...
But the answer to your question is NO, that is not possible on the NE5.

Pablo

Hi Willie
Again you have buried a meaningful question in an unrelated thread where it is not likely to get much attention or generate much response. If you start a new topic/post and give it an appropriate subject line, it will be seen by more people and you will get better response. I'm not trying to chastise you, but to help you obtain better results.
No, no one can tell you how many samples the NE5 will hold....because not all samples are created equally. Some are large, some are small. The instrument has 256MB of sample memory. Some samples are significantly smaller than 1MB; some as much as 4-5MB.

PAblo
