in reference to the sound library....about how many sound samples can the onboard memory hold?

It really depends on the sample sizes. Not all samples are the same size, so smaller, so larger.
It's important to note that the Pianos memory is a different location that the Sample Lib memory, so one doesn't affect the other.
Usually you can get about 16 to 20 samples in the Sample Lib "about 67.8MB"
The pianos memory is a real wildcard because if you load two large pianos, that's it, you're done, "about 185.4MB"

I usually do OK loading up my NSEx.
But find myself wishing for just a little more Piano memory in the NE3.
Once you settle on a good Grand, Upright, and Rhodes, the rest are easy choices.
