I am using a Logilink USB to Midi Adapter which is working fine when I send and receive midi to the nord drum from Logic or other DAWs. But my Nord Drum 2 Manager is unable to connect, I always get "No reply from drum. Please check Midi setup" although the USB device is selected in the setup menu. Anyone any ideas?
My gear:
Nord Drum 2 (OS 2.24)
Nord Drum 2 Manager v1.00
Logilink USB-to-Midi-Adapter

Re: Unable to connect Nord Drum 2 Manager
Strange...
do you have both IN and OUT connected directly with your ND2? - I bet you do,
it should be direct, no other MIDI devices in between, ....
but that's all I can think of..
Sorry! Puzzles me..!

Hoping to hear from you soon.

Re: Unable to connect Nord Drum 2 Manager
This was an issue for me since OSv3. However, I took the ND2 to a mates place and tried his interface and it connected but wouldnt send successfully. I then tried it again on my set-up at home and it worked first time! Same configuration, same order of set-up cables etc. I have no idea except that there is a bug in the software and/or OSv3.
I should add this literally just started working today - very odd! I was super frustrated before as my programs were all unorganised, but now they are all nicely laid out finally. Wouldn't it be great if Clavia could give us a program editor like they do for their keyboards....

Re: Unable to connect Nord Drum 2 Manager
No one has any idea why this happens? It's extremely frustrating since i really want to back up my bank that i've spent a week doing.. it would also be nice to try out some of the other banks that are available for download.
All other midi software works great with these midi cables, my analog four, moog sub 37 and my modulars also responds to the midi in and out perfectly, no problems sending sysex with other software, so it's clearly the Nord software which is bugged.
I've tried all my midi in's and outs on my ESI 1010e..
It does connect like it should, but it only sends or recieve like 5-10% before i get the message that the drum is not responding.
Edit: things i've tried:
running the program as an admin from root of c:\
different compability modes for the .exe
turning off all services and programs that arent needed (basically safe mode but with midi working)
this program is also very unreliable and prone to crashes.. 2 times it has crashed my computer (BSOD even - which been years since i saw on Win7).

Re: Unable to connect Nord Drum 2 Manager
Hi,
Quite frustrating I can imagine!
There are several things that can go wrong, from badly made MIDI interfaces, software, drivers, to cables. Perhaps above posters all have slightly different problems. Stoat, if I remember correctly, got it solved after he found out one of his cables was faulty. (Your cables are fine I bet, but it's always a good idea to test a couple)
I'm currently on Win8, but it also worked fine on my Win7 (64) system with an e-mu xmidi 1x1, using windows' own usb-midi driver. Maybe the Nord software is buggy in some way, but it does seem to work on some systems.I think it could be a specific combination of hardware, software & drivers, complex stuff to figure out what is going wrong.
Some thoughts:
As you say, sysex transfer is more sensitive for problems because of the larger amount of data/time. Although your setup works with other software sending sysex data, maybe Nord uses a slightly higher tranfer rate than your setup can handle. (there is no way to limit the rate is there?) (and: don't get me wrong, not saying you have a bad interface etc.!)
And, Or, given the crashes, perhaps the ESI driver and the Nord software don't like each other much. (you can tell I'm not a computer expert). Have you tried updating the ESI driver?
Best of luck, hope you get working soon, keep us posted!
Albert

Re: Unable to connect Nord Drum 2 Manager
Hi bemushroomed,
Have you tried contacting Nord directly on this? Since you are in Sweden, they are your best first source for advice/help. Summer holiday is in the air, however, so you'd best try them first thing Monday morning. Things are pretty quiet there for the month of July.
Bless,
Pablo

Re: Unable to connect Nord Drum 2 Manager
Thanks guys, i seem to have solved it. Fortunately i had my old ESI Juli@ card laying around so i connected it and the sysex transfer from this card works perfectly.
No clue why my newer ESI card doesnt work with Nord Drum Manager. Really happy i got it sorted out and that it seems to be possible to run both cards at the same time

Hi!
Great! Glad you got it working! indeed, still a bit strange it doesn't work with your 1010e though!
Luckily you had an alternative card, but not ideal to have 2 soundcards/interfaces in your pc..
Cheers,
Albert
