Random harmonics on Noise, Click, Waves. Is it OK? (VIDEO)

Postby SouthDrum » 03 Feb 2017, 11:14

Hey guys hope all is well.
Here is the video
Watch on youtube.com

0:00 Noise
0:15 Wave H4 + Timbre
0:30 Wave H4 + Timb Env
0:45 Wave H4 + Click n1

I have random harmonics on Noise, Clicks n and C, all the waves except A1-A4.
A1-A4 have random harmonics on Punch PUP though.
Velocity for all the notes are the same.
Is it OK?
Sounds weird to me. I’d prefer have it stable.

Hi,
I think I hear similar things with mine,

With noise it's not so surprising you get differences between notes. Noise not a sample that gets played back the same way for each note. It behaves like real noise, random, so in the first and the last example I actually expect each note to be slightly different.
In the middle two examples you didn't use noise or a noisy click. Perhaps the fact that the oscillators are not reset for each new note, plays a role here. With a sharp attack, the beginning of each note will sound slightly different. I don't know whether that explains the differences you can hear and see. Perhaps try even shorter notes at a high tempo, to see if the variation in sound is cyclic. Or try to see if very long notes also differ from each other, I mean after the attack, during the decay of the sound.

Cheers,
Albert

I agree with wartaler, I think this is OK and what you are seeing is the influence of where the EG is starting to output the sound source.
Think that the spectrum that you are seeing also includes the EG boundary (i.e. the edge where the sound wave starts) and that sharp edge should generate a different set of harmonics each time depending where you catch the sound source to output it.

Thank you for your responses guys!
I also received the NORD’s tech support reply, it says “This is in the inherent nature of the design of this instrument”.
So I think I’m good, will figure it out how to use that random feature in a creative way.
Peace out!
