Hello to Nord-Forum by ma first post!
When I look on photos of ND2, I see that there are some hardware revisions (the rev.nr. is printed on the front panel). Apart of different print layout (e.g. buttons labels) what are the differences in the hardware?
kind regards
wasserwerk

Re: ND2 hardware revisions
Hi wasserwerk!
No other differences, just the labels ...
They all have the same functionality & sound
(when updated to the latest OS)
Cheers,
Albert

Thanks for the quick reply!
Only because of the labels a new hardware revision number? Really?
What is the last revision?

Re: ND2 hardware revisions
Hi,
Are you considering buying a second hand one? / are you uncertain about your unit ?
I don't know what the latest hw version # is
the one seen in the video of the 2013 MESSE introduction is a prototype I think, it has totally different labels, the one depicted on the website is 5.3 - mine is 5.4 ('repeat' label replaced with 'echo') and there is at least one later version since OS2.x
mine has the OS0.92 labels (not hugely different), which is slightly inconvenient, but it has all the functionality of OS3.0 since I updated it
I'm not an expert on this, but manufacturers/suppliers sometimes run out of some components, for example see: nord-stage-forum-f3/nord-stage-2-os-v1-72-is-out-t6092.html?hilit=Component
and there may be other reasons too to make minor changes,
- It can't be excluded that they did make changes besides the labels - but the specs have not changed, the hw versions all have exactly the same functionality, and I bet they sound exactly the same too -
Best,
Albert

Re: ND2 hardware revisions
Hi Wasswerk,
This forum is not directly affiliated with Nord in any way. I am the tech support rep for Nord products in Canada and the USA as my full-time job and also spend much time here in this forum trying to help out when and where I can, but I do not speak for official Nord corporate policy.
The OS update history for the ND2 is published on the Nord website here:
http://www.nordkeyboards.com/products/nord-drum-2/nord-drum-2-update-history
The only changes to the hardware have been the paintjob on the front panel. Some labels are now different from what they were originally. The newer manual versions use the newer labels. There are peel 'n stick labels available for owners of older hardware version ND2 models to eliminate the confusion between the original labels and the newer manuals. I know that this sounds kind of suboptimal, but I can say that I have installed these labels on my ND2 and they are great. It's hard to tell that it's not the original paint job I'm looking at and they are holding up very well. Please note that I live in an environment (Florida) which is NOT friendly to peel 'n stick labels, so saying that these are doing well is really saying something.
Bless,
Pablo

Re: ND2 hardware revisions
Thanks Pablo!
I've been trying to make a sticker myself starting with the manual PDF, managed to scale it properly, got all the holes in right place for the LEDs, all excellent - but then it wouldn't stay put for longer than one day -
Where can I get such a sticker?

Re: ND2 hardware revisions
Your Dutch distributor should be able to provide this. They do have holes cut in the right places and really do work surprisingly well.

Re: ND2 hardware revisions
Not being aware of the different versions until RTFM,just for the record some findings of the different revisions. Feel a bit burned with the recent aquisition of a 5.4. Not sure what Nord was smoking and thought what the value was of making such a major revision change, at 5.7 at such a late stage of the life cycle, other than taking the risk giving customers a feeling owning a 2nd grade instrument for the previous versions. IMHO would have been better to leave the panel as is. No info on Nord product webpage as well which just shows a 5.3 or a (hardware) high level revision change summary. Can't remember any manufacturer making such major changes. This adds to my list of love(Industrial design/performance/functionality) /hate (marketing/information/changes/documentation/open specification) relationship issues with Nord.
5.0 Pre-production perhaps
5.3 Major hardware revision change (several labels position and grouping changes)
5.4 Trig label change to Trig/Tap, Repeat changed to echo
5.7 Major revision change for button labels + Add text "Clean sound"
