Using a C2 with a Leslie 3300

Postby RevvDon » 28 Mar 2012, 22:33

Just received my new Leslie 3300 yesterday and I have a few questions for anyone who is using one with a Nord C2 using the 11 pin connector:

• What volume and drive settings are you using - both on the C2 and the 3300? I want to use the Leslie's tube drive at lower practice volumes when playing at home (without blasting out my windows :-) ). Any combinations of volumes that work for any of you? The manual has a section on doing so with a Hammond but it's written in a confusing manner. Besides every time it says to turn up the tube drive, it cautions the user not to or else they might blow the drivers.

• I am assuming the C2's Leslie effects are not routed through the 11 pin output. Is there any menu setting that has to change? I want to make sure I'm not doubling up the effect.

Thank you everyone for all of your helpful advice.
Don

I imagine you should leave the drive on your C2 at zero and let the valve preamp do the work for you.
As for the volume output on your C2 - most digital instruments perform best when the volume is at around 75% of maximum - read that somewhere years ago.

As to your second point - you're correct, the internal sim is not routed to the 11 pin output.

Just a quick question. If I hook up the 3300 to the C2, will a momentary rotary control footswitch affect the leslie speed as it does the sim? Mike

It should - I've connected my C1 to a 3300 via the 11 pin, and the half-moon worked perfectly. I'm just not sure if you have access to stop/slow/fast. From memory the 3300 needs you to hold a momentary switch for longer if you want 'stop'.

Thanks DazzJazz and Hanon
I usually use the sim in chorale mode and kick the tremolo in and out, but don't often leave it there. I am not kicking bass so for now the footswitch is ideal. Saving pennies for a 3300. Thanks again Mike

I use as Leslie 3300 with C2. My advice would be to use the overdrive on the C2 and leave the tube on the 3300 turned off. I think that sounds a lot better.

For jazz playing, I use the C2's overdrive at between 10 and 11 o'clock, for rock and funk I push it up to about noon or 1.

Also, having used footpedal, buttons, and half-moon switch, I find myself only using the half-moon switch these days (with the 11-pin cable to the leslie of course). It's really easy, and 1 less thing I need to plug in at gigs!

I just bought 3300 and c2d. Oh My god what a Great sound!

It works Great with the halfmoon.

Maybe the leslie sounds too high when playing st home :-)

I think this sounds good: nord c2d master output at 75%. Leslie volyme at 3 and tube at 10-12. I dont use the drive at nord. I only use the tubes in the leslie to crank it up as Tony M says in the demo at youtube. With this settings i must play with the swell pedal very closed.

You must turn the speaker sim off at the nord. It seems like the sim routes through the 11 pin output after all. I can hear the difference.

Tell me more of your settings and experience with nord c2 and 3300.

At home C2 up to 50%, I run the Leslie at 50%, tube drive at 1-2 o'clock. Horn level at 12 Tube mode 12:30 All EQ flat on both Leslie and C2. The sim is off and I do not use the C2 distortion. I have changed the pre-amp tube to a 1959 Mullard 12AX7.

I am not surpriced you line the C2/C2d with a Leslie 3300.
I have been using my Nord organs with a 145 leslie since 2008 always with good result.

These days I also use a motion sound pro 3tm + motion sound low pro + behringer ultrabas90 (with 80 hz active lowpass filter small one for car stereo).
If you get the speeds right the MotionSound system sounds really nice. It is highly portable and plays loud.
I use this for rehearsals or as a leslie number two for gigs.
