uh-oh...

Postby Spider » 21 May 2015, 12:33

just noticed that a certain German online retailer considerably slashed the price of the C2D.
It's not listed as a special offer or a promotion, and usually Clavia's prices are quite untouchable, I've seen substantial reductions only in anticipation of the release of a new model.

Even if it appears definitely unlikely, could it be...?
Maybe the C2D2 is really on its way, just in time for the release of the new Star Wars movie!!!

Maybe they just need to sell some C2D... I bought mine last year new for €2300 from an italian Nord official retailer 'cause it was the last one in stock, and I missed an offer on Woodbrass website when they were selling it new for €2100!

Now the A1 is on sale for €1479 (vs €1435) also the Nord Drum 2 is €10 more expensive

Price changes don't mean anything one way or the other; people tend to see what they want to see. Nord are a company who don't give out any information about new models until they are ready to do so, and nobody - absolutely nobody - has any advance information. Unfortunately, this makes it difficult for anybody in your position, wondering whether they should hang on for the prospect of a newer model appearing. For this reason, it is absolutely impossible to give knowledgeable advice about what to do; any advice is purely a guess. People are always naturally hopeful that some wonderful new instrument is just around the corner, but hopes aren't facts. Sadly, you might as well toss a coin as ask for other people's advice.

Hi Ruud,

RedLeo is correct there, but it does seem likely that major instrument releases will generally be timed for one of the major trade shows, either NAMM or Musik Messe. Of course now with internet this is not a hard fast rule, but more likely nevertheless.

Bless,

Pablo

Just to make it clear: my post was basically another joke on the C2D2-Star Wars stuff, I'm not pretending to infer anything on Clavia's releases and I don't want to fool anybody!

RedLeo and orco, you're totally right, prices go up and down according to fluctuations in the market, exchange rates and the warehousing needs of the distributors and individual shops.
For example, just a few months ago prices for the Stage2 dropped because everybody was expecting the new model to be released at NAMM.
Then the Electro 5 was launched instead, and Stage2 prices went back to normal. Now the EX has been released and prices of the "old" Stage2 are down again...

To make a long story short, Ruud: no way of knowing.
The only hard fact is that right now the Thomann price is the lowest it's ever been. If you need an organ clone and have already made up your mind on the C2D, my suggestion is to go for it.
For what we know -that is, nothing at all- the new model could come out tomorrow, in two years, or never (nothing is forever, during its history Clavia has abandoned a few product lines...)

You can't play what you haven't bought. If the C2D fits the bill, buy it. If you want some feature that hasn't been implemented yet, you can wait, but if the next model comes out without it, where are you then?

OK, if you then wanted to upgrade to the new model, you'd have spent more money than otherwise, but you'll have had the use of the thing for however long that may be and you wouldn't expect to have a new, working keyboard for free, would you?
