PK27 .... 6mth wait for delivery!!!

Postby CamboC2D » 12 Oct 2013, 11:45

So, ordered the PK27 pedals the same time as purchasing the C2D, back in August.
Here in Australia, the importer is The a Electric Factory in Melbourne.

I was told that the pedals would come in the next shipment, roughly 4-6 weeks.

Now it's October, 6 weeks later. I rang to see what was the go, and was told they won't be here until February!!!!!! That's 6 months to ship some 16kg pedals to Australia!!!!

What's the go? Why? What? How?

I told them that that was unacceptable, and the reply was "we'll see if we can get them earlier"

Der!!!
Should I contact Nord HQ directly?

Thoughts and experiences please...

Why not just order them from someplace else?

I ordered mine from Thomann 3 weeks ago, knowing they were out of stock. I figured I'd get them as quickly from there as anywhere, since few dealers hold them in stock anyway. They are now on their way - I had the email saying so 2 1/2 weeks after I placed the order. I guess they make small batches at Nord, so that's probably the next batch, but if your order was in the pipeline, it would have been fulfilled on that basis and on its way to your dealer by now. I suspect your dealer has been a bit slack and not chased them up as hard as he could - I have known dealers ignore the first order for anything and only placing the order when you start chasing for delivery, probably so they don't get landed with orders that people don't want by the time the stuff arrives.

If you can import them directly yourself, I'd try that. 6 months is a joke. You can try emailing Nord to see what they say. They ought to know if dealers are messing their customers about.

I just checked, and it looks as if Thomann will ship to Australia, so if the tax and duty arrangements suit you it might work. Some people have reported poor packaging from Thomann, but everything I've had from them has been properly packed and arrived safely. In Europe their prices are pretty keen, so I should have a look and see what you think.

You'll need to take the pre-VAT price on the website, make your currency conversion (it does it automatically for European countries but I doubt if it does for Oz). Then you'll have to add your home tax (GST?) and any import duty (probably the other way round - I bet you have to pay sales tax on the duty!) as I imagine a set of pedals will be over the item limit for tax-free imports.

Thanks Tacitus for your detailed replies :)

I wrote an email directly to the Australian distributer for Nord explaining my situation and received a pleasant reply. To quote in paraphrase:

"we order 4 months in advance and there is 8 to 10 weeks shipping time.

About three weeks before we got your August order we sold out of Pedal Keys and didn't have any more scheduled. My fault."

"xxxx xxxx of xxxxxx brought you to our attention and we immediately requested extra stock.

At some stage tomorrow I will provide xxxx an accurate eta for the PK 27 on it's way so he can put your mind to rest.

We apologise for the delay... "

I'm hoping sooner rather than later

I have had nothing but outstanding service from Thomann. Three shipments to Canada quickly (DHL). Packaging was great.

I think the overall service from Thomann is good to outstanding. I'm not saying somebody made up stories of poor packaging, but I suppose even the best of us have the occasional off day. In any case, even that particular story didn't result in a damaged product, as far as I know.

I try to buy locally in the UK when I can, but for something specialised like the Nord products, you do seem to be able to get the accessories much more easily from Thomann. I ended up getting the C2D itself and the case for the pedals in the UK and the rest from Thomann. Should get the pedals any day now and then my rig is complete (until I get the Leslie 3300, that is ...).

I received the Pedalkeys 27 today! Excited to finally kick bass lines from tomorrow.
Time now to put my vintage Hammond A-100 custom into storage for rentals only.

All that was needed to get them earlier than 6 months, was to ask for Nord Sweeden to UPS ship them! no! not a hard brainier.
Extra $180 and I've got them within 10 days of asking.

Happy now.
