"Steve hinted that Motion Sound is slowly phasing itself out of business, ever since John Fisher sold the company."

Oh well, it figures. I guess just bringing out a Pro-3XD wasn't good enough for them. No, they're not gonna be satisfied until they orphan my equipment completely!

Mooser, the Nord sim does sound good thru stereo pa speakers if you run it thru a Speakeasy . The native overdrive & slow to fast chorale really growl, though i have found it best to back off of the overdrive somewhat, ( which I hate to do ! i like a clean piano sound , but organ ? I want that TUBE DISTORTION !) i have 2 different Speakeasy clone pre amps , I usually take the pared down Shotglass model which has the Barker Unit to gigs .....THAT one i got off ebay, but had to have the Barker unit repaired. The one that i had Steve Hayes built to specs I leave at home . thru a speakeasy thru a pa ? the early jon lord (when he still used a leslie) sound is there. Have not tried the AMA model, but with the C2, i have not felt the need for that kind of over-the-top distortion. the overdrive it has more than satisfies me.

Thanks for the info on the Speakeasy. I haven't tried an intermediate pre-amp (between the organ and the main amp/speaker or PA board). It seems redundant to me. The signal from the Nord C-2 is plenty hot. and the signal from the Leslie 1/4" outlet even hotter. I have played my C-2 through my Leslie 45 and it sounds great. And I'd like to keep my rig as simple as possible. For me, that adds up to a Leslie 3300, if my Motion Sound can't be fixed or proves inadequate in volume. Except, whoops, now we're getting big again! Will a 3300 fit in the backseat of a compact car?
In general, I've got to keep my rig as small and self-contained as possible. Stringing speakers on both sides of the stage is out, and I'd rather not impinge on the PA at all. It's crazy, but the idea of having an organ-only keyboard player is so old it's new again, and having eliminated the old weight/size problem by using a C-2, I don't want to reintroduce the other problems associated with the organ, like needing space and power from the PA. I'd like to be as mobile and self-contained as a guitar player. Sometimes you gotta make a quick exit, followed closely by brickbats and bottles!
But, everybody seems to agree on the benefit of interposing at least one 12AU7 tube in the path. I'll have to give it a try. But look, no one has ever applauded my ability to emulate the original Hammond tonewheel sound, a great many of them have never even heard the original. What people applaud is good or inventive or dramatic playing, and other musicians/vocalists appreciate good support, using the resources of the organ-rotary speaker in front of me. (What people appreciate most is if I don't show up.) You make it sound "just like a Hammond" by playing it like a Hammond. And I'd rather have a C-2 in front of me than a frontal lobotomy!
And we have wandered far afield from the thread's original topic, and I apologise.

Hi I just wanted to add to this blog by mentioning that I use a Nord C2 into a speakeasy clone floor pedal, then into a Motion sound 145 miced with 2 shure PG56's and a Shure SM90 on the bottom (built in). As I replaced the cheap mics that come with the stock 145. I also changed the horn driver for a Selenium unit and modified the 145 and the clone to take the 11 pin connector. The top end of the 145 is now smoother and rounder. I also replaced the bottom 12" speaker with a light weight B&C unit to reduce weight and smooth out the low end. I will be adding a small sub to add even more bottom. Man this setup rocks! With the 11pin plug outs it is fast to setup and not too heavy or complicated. I will be moving my C2 up to the C2D when it comes out though. Real Drawbars wow!! Oh and by the way I own a B3 Leslie 122 setup that sounds great! But my Nord, Speakeasy, Motionsound, setup is so close that it is scary.

Hi Timbo,

Sounds like an interesting setup.
I have a C1>Pro 145 - all I've changed is the woofer, for an Eminence Delta 12 LF. Plenty of bass for the small rooms I usually work. Prior to the swap I used to get a strange lack of bass and a square -wave sound in some rooms.
I think you'll agree the combination is pretty damn good for most small rooms.

Funny in this blog area people seem to be complaining about the Nord migration from the C1 to the C2 and now the C2D. Well if you don't like progress and you think that it should be free then good luck to you! As for me nobody has put a gun to my head! I don't have to buy the next latest and greatest, but having the Nord stuff at the store affords me great options. Repeat after me, "I LOVE MY NORD C2 and soon to be C2D!!" (subliminal). Besides the people that are complaining probably make a living out of complaining! Ug!

Hey, Timbo !
I know what you mean about having the Nord available at the store. The Nord Stage 2 was my 1st encounter with a modern day (3rd generation) clone. The red color threw me off, as well as the drawbuttons, but the SOUND blew me out ! I could not afford the price, so i tried as hard as i could to NOT like the Nord, & i figured that if this was one example of today's clones, I could find something just as good, but cheaper. Well......5 different clones later (all with drawbars) nothing came close. I did not have to demo a C2 (or C1, neither which was available) to make my decision a year & a half later.
as far as complaining about the C1 to c2 to c2d goes.....in my experience, most people who complain are secretly happy JUST to complain : it's easier & more 'fullfilling' to complain, though I DO make it a habit to listen carefully to what they are complaining about, even if it means nothing more than seeing through the thinking behind the complaining.
I have to admit : the C2D looks VERY interesting. I'm happy, though, with the c2 as it is.

Anyway, Motion Sound is gone, gone, gone, and I don't think they will be coming back. The polyurethane belts needed for Pro-3xs and 145s and others can often be looked up at industrial O-ring supply places, since that's what they are, large thin O-rings.
And thanks for the tip about "Selenium" drivers. Motion Sound specifies a "treated" (polymer coated, I believe) modified driver ("stock Eminence drivers will quickly fail")
And so my Pro-3x is now an orphan. I'll have to buy a 3300, someday, to keep it company.

I just got my self a low pro for my pro 3 tm today.
After spending some hours tweaking the internal trim pots on the pro 3 tm i got it to sound quite good. I use two small bass combo amps.
I really line my motion sound tops for rehearsal work.
Light and nimble.
But I can se how the competion from the vent and other internal simunators must have hit them.
When it comes to getting the perfect sound only a "real" leslie satisfies my ears though.
