Leslie Studio 12 + Subwoofer

Just an idea:
A small version of a Lesliespeaker.
Could it work if we simply add a subwoofer?
Small, light & Leslie!
Do we have a Columbus' Egg here?

Product URL : http://hammondorganco.com/products/leslie/studio-12/
Check also product g37-g27 URL : http://hammondorganco.com/products/leslie/g37-g27/

Mechanical leslie, transportable ...
Although 100W RMS is not that much in bassland, the big punch in bass can delivered by something else that goes straight to 30Hz.
Is 100W RMS enhough for organ use, if we give the bass-punch to a sub?
Because the Studio 12 does not have a sub out, a crossover or something that splits the signal by freq is needed.

The G27 does not have an amp!

Channel Select foot switch,
speed select foot switch (slow, fast, stop) or speed control adapter cables 11-pin or 8-pin.
Variable speed control pedal input for optional (V-20RT).

12" Eminence bass speaker
dual-rotor Leslie intended for general applications,
tube preamp
100 watt solid state power amp.
1/4″ input

Controls: Clean Volume, Ch Select, Overdrive: Gain, Volume, Contour Equalizer: Treble, Mid, Bass Slow rotor speed;fast rotor speed, power switch

The Leslie Studio 12 is the same size and weight as the C37 Guitar Leslie.
Dimensions : 29 1/4"(W) x 20 1/2"(D) x26 3/4"(H) / 75cm x 52cm x 69cm
Weight : 85 lbs / 40 KG

Weight Leslie G37: 100 lbs,
Weight Leslie G27: 92 lbs
Dimensions G27 & G37 : (H) 30" x (W) 23" x (D) 23"

Optional adapter cable 11-pin to 1/4" or 8-pin to 1/4"

If the Nord Half Moon pin-out fits the Leslie Studio 12 no adapter cable is needed. Although you still need an extension cable, it might be cheaper than using the 11-pin all-in-one. Also it makes you less vulnerable to Murphy's Single Point Of Failure because 1/4" jacks are more common.

Update-Q:
Is there a difference in sound between the Studio12 and guitar G27/G37 version behind the amp (the leslie-part), or is this just a matter of eq, input hi/low etc?

Update 16-dec-2013
The Leslie Studio 12 and G27/G37 are US/Canada Only. They will not become available in Europe due to CE-safety-restrictions. Also not available in Japan.
Only if Japan steps in for modification then total market will be large enough.
Australia/New Zealand unknown. Can somebody check?

<i>"Do you mean baffle compared to wood or that a separate direct (sub)woofer is needed?"</i>

I wouldn't worry about a subwoofer until the 3300 actually let's you down. And if you are in that size room, there might be a way to go through the PA, too, either direct-in or miccing.

BTW, have you checked to see if all of these products (although it's a gas to see them all and the specs) are still available?

Well, in a review by Jim Alfredson
http://www.organissimo.org/3300review_1.htm
is mentioned that the 3300 drops below 70Hz. Without the numbers, just by ear according to Alfredson the 3300 just does not give satisfaction in bassplaying. If you play the Jimmy Smith kind of bass (left hand + pedal) that can become something relevant. It could be that he is using the 3300 for larger room, like you mentioned. Or that the 3300 is designed for keyboardplayers that don't play bass.

the BTW : That is the reason links are added that directs you to the websites as close as possible to the company or first seller. Availability changes during time :-)

I'm trying to contact the company for the 'Rotary'-system (http://www.parieorgan.it/speaker_en.htm) to get more info (Parie-Organ also seems to be a reseller of this system) but I don't have reply yet. Unfortunately, because they look road-proof and portable, maybe need more powerfull approach in amp and speaker (and filters of course).

Hi Emile,

too bad the small Hammond-Suzuki cubes won't be available in Europe, they look good. You could try to find a Leslie 825 or a Leslie 330. They were the smallest pro line models from Electro Music - at least as far as I know.

If you're willing to do some DIY work, you could also try a (German-)Italian leslie clone from the 1970s. With a new horn driver and a new crossover they sound pretty good and most of them are considerably smaller than the originals. For the tons of money you'll save over some of the other options you could then get a nice tube amp head and improve your sound even further.

BTW: What kind of bench are you using? I'm curious ...

Hi Neighbour,

Nothing special, not a two-seater :-). As a bench I use just some rigid foldable old bomb-proof thing with four legs, high enough -organ benches are higher than normal chairs because of the pedals-, found in a remarkable stuffed second hand shop.

Together the C2-set in the very nice Nord-gigbags fills up my German car quite good : C2, Pedalboard, bench, Nord C2-stand and two active monitors/speakers with 15", 43cmx43cmx65cm, 35 kg (17x17x25 inch, 77 lbs) each, a flightcase with with (spare)cables, volume pedal and tiny things etc and the spare tire and some other carrepairstuff to keep the passenger seat free for a nice female saxophoneplayer (hey!). Just being pragmatic, there is something like a transportlimit in an avarage European stationwagon because of the size and count of the objects, which makes the transport (read: choice) of a leslie a bit puzzling.

If you see the Portable Hammond B3 (the B3P) set: Besides it is not possible to move the 125cm(52inch) wide 60kg (132lbs) organconsole by 1 person, I don't think that the complete set fits in my car together with a Leslie. By the way, were did they put the pedalboard on this picture?

You mean the Solton and Elka-tone speakers? I don't know about smaller models yet. Please feel free to add them here, it could be very interesting indeed.

Once I had an Elkatone which was still a washingmachine of 73kg/154lbs (they also build stuff solid in those days), and it was loud! (no tubes) Unfortunately I could not get it in my car on my own without damaging it (the car I mean, it lost its' rear bumpercover while hauling the Elka in. It became an expensive Leslie after all  ).

DIY's is not really the thing I want to go for, although it is tempting, it also feels like a alternative scenario that should not be necessary. A Nord deserves a nice Leslie.
Besides that, DIY is a single case solution and second hand means limited available. I'd like to see a handy and good mechanical Leslie available for all Nord organ players.
Maybe Nord can design one there own?
