How to wire my C2D into my KRK Rokit 5 G3 powered monitors?
I am looking to use my studio monitors with my C2D while practicing at home. But I don't exactly know how to connect the C2D to the monitors. The monitors have and unbalanced RCA input, a balanced 1/4 TRS input, and a XLR input. Since the CD2 outputs are unbalanced 1/4, how do I get from them to the monitors? I can't plug a unbalanced signal (via a 1/4 instrument cable) into a balanced one can I?
Any info would be great!
Thanks,
-Ryan

Easy way is to use a Twin RCA to RCA lead such as you'd use for your hi-fi (you'll need to split one end to get the two plugs to the speakers) and use a couple of RCA to 1/4" adapters to make the other end fit the organ. They're a couple of dollars and have a 1/4" plug with an RCA socket built on the end.
If you can solder, even better to make up a lead with 1/4" plugs one end and RCA the other, but the solution above is fine for most purposes - I just wouldn't gig with a load of adapters like that, though lots of people do.
You can go from unbalanced to balanced, but it depends on the way your balanced inputs are engineered on how much volume you lose. Going 1/4" to RCA is the right match of signal levels even if the connectors are different.

Hey.
But I would NOT use (accidentally) the MONO HIGH OUTPUT of the C2D. Have fun.
BTW, the subwoofer 10s brings much more fun into KRK sound

Thanks for the info! I don't know about the subwoofer right now as the C2D and its accessories broke the bank. Plus I think that it might tick off the neighbors! I'll will most likely eventually end up getting one though!

Re: How to wire my C2D into my KRK Rokit 5 G3 powered monito
I prefer to simply connect my Nord to my KRK Rokit 6 G2 monitors using two separate 3 meter cables with 6.35 mm jacks (mono/TR) on each end. The Rokits will see you plugged in an unbalanced source and will treat it accordingly. This leaves the RCA inputs free, which I sometimes connect an iPhone to using a regular 3.5 mm stereo jack to dual RCA cable.
I haven't tried it, but I suppose you can at least use both the RCA and balanced (either XLR or jack, probably not both) at the same time. I could maybe play a song on the iPhone and play along on my Nord.

And if that doesn't work, plug the iPod into the Nord and use the headphone out to drive the speakers. Can't see why that shouldn't be fine for practicing at home, even if it's not the highest possible quality.

I did a double take on the 6.35 mm jacks! If they do treat the input as unbalanced that might be the best bet for me as I was using the RCA's for my laptop.

Do you have the generation 3 KRKs? I just hooked them up to my C2D for the 1st time today and I really don't think that I would need a sub. I had to turn the bass down a little 'cuz it was hurting my ears!

I have the 6" G2s and since my music room is rather small, I also found them to have plenty of bottom end. I can image it might be less so with a bigger room though.
