Re: The same sample can sound different depending the Nord
Agree to the blind test. Strong evidence that the samples are identical, the DACs are identical, etc.
I think I have gear issues ....

Re: The same sample can sound different depending the Nord
I went from the E3 to the E5 recently, and I think I have a pretty discerning ear. Two things are quite obvious, playing both instruments from the VPC1 and with headphones (i.e. disregarding any amplification):
(1) Nord's piano sounds are very different from each other - I can't understand how anyone can say they are all "similar".
(2) Differences between the E3 and the E5 are virtually non-existing. I am fully convinced a blind test would yield no result.
Of course bad amplification can make all pianos sound "similar", i.e. similarly disappointing.

Re: The same sample can sound different depending the Nord
I spent some time reprogramming my pianos sounds from NS2 to NE4 to NS2Ex to NE5, with boards connected the same way to one mixer + amp setup, changed the cables (left / right ) , connected via midi, uploaded the same version (M, L, XL) ...
I heard some differences that were real ... until I found a difference in the setup

Re: The same sample can sound different depending the Nord
Earlier models (e.g., E3) support the first-generation string resonance for piano (sustain pedal only). The E5 supports second generation, so differences ought to be expected (assuming the .npno file size is sufficiently large to provide the string resonance samples).
