Synth Sounds
Hey I have a bit of an odd question and this may not be the place for it but I'm gonna throw it out there anyways.
I'm new to using synths and I have an Electro 5HP, I'm trying to get the squeal sound (which I think is done with a sax) that plays in House of Pain's song Jump Around. Does anyone know how to go about doing this?
Any help would be sooooooo greatly appreciated!
Thanks.

Re: Synth Sounds
The Electro 5 doesn't have a synth, does it? Just a sample player?
Anyway, I'd go with sampling. That sound has always been more like a scream to me, but the true origin is here:
Having said that, I've used the scream from the beginning of Get Off, by Prince. It just needs the pitch altering and a bit of editing. No-one ever questioned it while I was using it.
If you're not playing with a horn section, you might also want:

That's true. The Electro doesn't have a synth engine. So you have to sample a synth sound you like and upload it to the Electro using Sample editor / Sound manager.

Re: Synth Sounds
Yes sorry the Electro 5 doesn't have a synth engine, just the sample synth section is more what I was meaning.
Alright so I can just cut the sample from Shoot Your Shot and then upload that to the board using sound manager? I knew that's where the sample came from just wasn't sure how to replicate that on my Electro 5.
Thanks for the help!

Re: Synth Sounds
I think it's good practise to see how close you can get to a sound with synthesis if time is your friend. Sometimes, only a sample will do!
It's great doing Jump Around with live horns... ok, so the grainy lofi timbre might not be there, but there's something fun about doing hip-hop as part of a set of otherwise typical function band stuff. The punters dig it!

First create a nsmp file with the Nord Sample Editor (this is where you load the wav file and map it to the keys).
Then upload that created file with the Nord Sound Manager.
You can also upload the sample using the Nord Sample Editor, but make sure to save the project up front.

By default, the DOWNLOAD checkbox underneath the GENERATE button is selected in Nord Sample Editor. This is usually a good idea, but...
As Bart suggested, it is important to SAVE and NAME your project before doing this. What happens if you fail to so this is Nord Sample Editor will automatically assign a name to that sample. This name will be "UNTITLED." Nothing wrong with that. However, when the time comes when you do this again for a new sample, the automatically generated name will again be UNTITLED. As a result, it will overwrite the prior version of UNTITLED. Naming the project file BEFORE hitting the GENERATE button will avoid this problem, and also make your life easier going forward to have a meaningful name for your sample.
