Nope, no interest. The K8.2s blow it out.

Same sort of deal between my legacy K8s and K10s. Always came back to the K8s for clarity and dispersion.

There will be those that argue "well, what about bass?" I have to dial down the bass on my K8.2 units to keep the bass player from smacking me. Yes, it's that good.

BTW, I'm the guilty party who coached afroskully into doing the K8.2 thing. My bad. As you can see, no regrets from his side :)

chatfd wrote:Rusty; AMps, etc: I've a question .... using two amps - I'm guessing in stereo as well, how far apart do you place the 2nd speaker? Any set-up issues or cabling ideas that have worked for you?

I started with a Roland KC-550 but alas, it was too heavy wheels or not and would not fit into the car I purchased (LOL - that was a speaker gone issue!) Tried the EV's and have used them but I've stuck with the QSC K12 so I can compete with my guitarists. I hear ya about tones and sounds, yet every venue makes it different too. But even 20 lbs lighter (the QSC is compared to the Roland KC-550) ... I am now ready for either a pari of 8's or one K8 and one K10. Thoughts on that mixture? I've seen a person do that & I thought it was a good idea as well. Thanks!

I play with a pair of either K8.2s or RCFs over each shoulder. It take a few rehearsals to gauge the volume -- after all, it's in you ears -- but once past that I can vouch for the approach if you're responsible for stage volume, and there's no FOH involved. BTW, the SSv2 still comes out for smaller, more intimate gigs. Just sayin'

I think I'm playing LOUD, but the recordings and the audience feedback is consistent -- you sound great! OK, go with that.

Using different sized speakers is not an evil thing, but --- all things being considered -- why? Not an ideal state.

If I were steering people to gear, I'd steer them to the K8.2 units. Totally awesome bang for the buck, so much better than the legacy K8 units.

I think I was reading that they also have a DSP setting for near-field monitoring. Do you ever use that feature?

The "monitor" preset seems to roll off bass, which makes sense if you're using them as floor wedges. Mine are on poles, so I go with the flat EQ.

What would be a better amp that would create those nice real piano tones....?

Center Point Stereo amp. Great for small to medium gigs. Add a small powered sub if you need additional low end. For a large gig in-ears are the way to go.

Nice for getting a spacious effect throughout the room, out of a single small box. But piano will not sound as good as it does through EV ZXa1 or QSC K8.2, at least not without some EQ.

I gigged with the K12 since it came out and got many compliments on my tone. I started doing some smaller gigs lately and decided to get a K 10.2 for those. Turns out it was a noticeable improvement on the K12 particularly with the pianos. It has plenty of clear volume as well, so I use it for everything now. The size and weight difference helps a lot. The K12 has just heavy enough to be clumsy carrying and hard to carry too much in the other hand. The 10.2 is more comfortable, takes up less space, and sounds better. First time I have actually enjoyed playing the piano on my Electro.

Thanks for that update. People ask me about the K10.2s, but all I have is the K8.2s to compare against the legacy K8,K10 and K12. Frankly, once I got to the K8.2, I lost interest in anything else. I wish that happened sooner, though :)

I'm not surprised by your experience. All of the K.2 series appear to be a huge upgrade over the legacy versions, which were no slouches in their time.

From everything I have read over the years, I think the K 8's are preferred the most for keyboard use. I would have gone with an 8, but I also use K speaker for vocals and acoustic guitar at home, so I went a little bigger.

So when I started this thread I had a 5d...now I have a stage 3 and man its fantastic through a set pf head phones but through the 12.2 it just sounds awful. Should I use plug directly from the keyboard into the amp? And should I plug into it using both Nord outputs?

What am I missing...its doesnt really sound like a piano...its soooo good in the phones
