Storing My Nord Vertically

Postby InVinoVeritas » 10 May 2016, 19:24

Hi all! I have a NE4HP that I have to store vertically in a sturdy gigbag due to space limitations and our cats. Could that particular position have an adverse effect on the keybed if continued for longer periods? Just wondering. Thank you for your comments.

If you are going to store it for such a long period of time, you might want to sell it. These instruments are meant to be played. ;-)

I think you're fine. I've had a couple of keyboards over the years that I've stored vertically and never had any issues. Sounds like you're just doing this between gigs vs. leaving it in the same place for months untouched?

I've been storing my E3HP vertically for years when it's not in use, first in the Nord soft bag and now in a Gator ProGo. No problems at all.

Vertical is fine unless you are storing an old vintage synth that might leak a battery or capacitor. That will run down the PCB if not careful.

Otherwise, I'd say the most critical element is the climate you are storing it in rather than flat or vertical. Watch out for humidity, extreme heat, and super cold weather. I'm in Japan and the weather can wreak havoc on my gear, so playing it from time to time is probably best as someone already mentioned. That way if anything, you can keep tabs on the condition.

Thank you very much for your answers. Cats are my greatest concern at the moment. With four monsters running up and down, there is always cat hair no matter how hard I may try to keep the house clean. :)

with reference to cats: NOTE: once or twice a year I receive a phone call or email from someone whose Nord has been urinated on by a cat (jealousy?). While storing your instrument vertically will not protect it from cat urine, at least it will all quickly run down to one end or the other where it can do the least damage. Much better than storing horizontally when located in potential cat pee zones. ;-)
