Hi all,
I'm new to Nord, and synths in general. The video and print tutorials instruct users to use "Banks" to create program/set lists (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xvt7bl_f-2s) but the Sound Manager 6.82 does not have this function. Any advice on how to get start organizing would be very much appreciated!
Thanks,
A

Re: Sound Manager 6.82
Hi adave, welcome!
sorry if I ask you things that you might already know.
first question: Did you connect your NE4 to your computer? (The nord sound manager is like a window into the nord and doesn't have a function itself. The nord leads for example have another structure, that's why the nord sound manager will only display the "banks", if a keyboard with banks (like NE4 *EDIT: Not like NE4*) is connected.
If so, does the computer recognize the nord? (if you have Windows you might need some driver, which you can download on the nord homepage)
Most nord keyboards are organized in banks which contain programs.
The nord sound manager will show you three (I guess) categories: pianos, programs and the samples that you got on your nord.
The banks we're talking about are the banks that categorize the programs, so make sure you have "programs" selected.
You should find the ability to choose between these banks (or display all of them in a long list) on top - like in the video!
I hope that will help you so far.
Cheers

Re: Sound Manager 6.82
Hi Joni, thank you!!
No worries at all, I am quite a beginner. My Electro 4D is connected to my Mac Mini, the Sound Manager recognizes the instrument. I've attached 2 screen shots.
The Sound Manager shows the Piano, Sample Library and Program tabs with their respective sounds, but there is no column or drop down option for "Banks", even when "Program" is selected. Once I select one or multiple sounds, I see "Bank" on the right part of the window, describing what category the sound belongs to, but unsure of how to create a Bank A, B, or C in order to create my own program lists.
Thanks so much!

Re: Sound Manager 6.82
Oh, okay. My mistake. It looks like the NE4 has no banks at all. How could I oversee this before? I was thinking it had banks, because you said it was mentioned in the tutorials.
It says on the nord homepage: "The Program memory can hold 128 different Programs, organized in 32 Pages with 4 Programs each." So - no banks, sorry!

Ah okay. Makes sense. Any idea how to create program lists then? That's my main concern.

Re: Sound Manager 6.82
Only the NE5 is able to have setlists. In other models there's no real difference between program list(s) and the programs. I recommend you to use the sound manager to put them into the right order before you have a gig coming.
Of course you can also keep all the program numbers (& songs) in mind.
Especially on your NE4 (no display) it's also useful to have a list somewhere, either paper or a notes app on your phone. You can export such a list with the sound manager, open that html.-file in a browser and copy it into your notes (iCloud) or anywhere else.

Gotcha. Thanks, I understand now! I just went through the export sound list function as well. Thank you!

Re: Sound Manager 6.82
I made an edit to the other post - that's how it could look (at least for rehearsals it should be okay to have your phone somewhere.. )

Re: Sound Manager 6.82
How long until Sound Manager deals with synth patches and parameters?
and it would be real sweet to capture and display EXT patch change assignments and be able to REMAP them when swapping my rig around.

Re: Sound Manager 6.82
Hi Mr. Marko,
I do not think this will happen. Nord Sound Manager is really more or a librarian than a true editor. Yes, it may be possible to create such a software beast, but it's hard to imagine that adjusting knobs on a computer screen with a mouse will be more user-friendly than actually turning a knob on the front panel of the instrument. I don't know this for a fact, but strongly suspect that this has much to do with why Nord has not implemented program-level editing in NSM.
CTRLR may give the functionality you seek. I'm not sure, have not really looked at it in four years or so...
Bless,
Pablo
