Sample Editor Mapping

Postby Chinmusic » 08 Feb 2018, 02:20

I want to take sound effect samples that need to be triggered for a show and assign each sample to it's own key. F0 would trigger 1 sample, F#0 would trigger another and so on. Ideally these would all make up one or two large parent samples to be loaded so I can split the Nord stage and keep the program switching to a minimum during the song. I can only seem to get the sample to play across the entire keyboard which won't work for me. If anyone can break down the process or point me in the direction of a youtube tutorial or a thread that has covered this I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

J

I recently created a multi sound sample with one sound per key. Here’s how I did it:
1. From the Audio File/ Assign tab, add WAV files
2. In the Audio Files list, click on the first WAV file to be mapped
3. In the box titled “Multi Sample per File Assign” set the “Start Key” option to the key you want to trigger the WAV file, then click the “Assign” button. In the keyboard diagram at the top of the screen, the key you assigned will be highlighted in yellow and have a dot indicating that a sample is assigned to that key.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the rest of the WAV files.
5. When you’re done, save your project, then click the Generate button at the top of the page next to the keyboard diagram to generate the NSMP File.

And if you want to silence the "sounding keys" in a specific one, just put a very short muted wav sample in the lowest and higher keys.

Thanks for taking the time! I followed the steps but it only plays one of the samples and still across the whole keyboard. I've got a dot on each key with the sample assigned. I can only get one to light up yellow at a time. I'm obviously missing something.

Maybe a video on youtube can help a little.

Thanks. I've seen it. It doesn't totally apply for me since I'm triggering SFX. I've used this software for years and I feel I've tried every iteration to get it to map properly. I even emailed Pablo (still waiting). I've assigned each SFX to each key I want and the dots are there. Only the active one turns yellow. Some are light blue, some dark. When I generate only one of the samples gets bounced across the keyboard. I tried assigning manually and it all looks good but it doesn't work. I even opened up an old file from a couple years ago when I did the mapping successfully and generated it again just to see and it didn't work. I'm at a loss. Maybe it's the converter to NSMP3? I don't know.

Thanks for all the help. Problem solved-ish! I was assigning it to the lowest octave to save real estate. The sampler doesn't want it beneath C2 or it blankets the keyboard. Easy fix but frustratingly not intuitive or obvious enough. Hopefully, future users will stumble upon this thread and not lose hours of their life to this problem :) Thanks again!

Re: Sample Editor Mapping

That is odd. Sounds like a bug in the software, or maybe I’m missing why they would do that on purpose. All of my sample sets to-date have been from C7 to C8 so I haven’t run into the issue. Nice sleuthing!

UPDATE: I took a look this morning, and I might be misunderstanding you, but it doesn't look like a bug to me. I can assign an SFX sample to any key, including A0. The only issue I see (which is by design) is that every sample gets assigned a range on the keyboard (indicated by the blue or gray highlights in the keyboard at the top of the screen) and the rightmost or leftmost sample gets stretched over its assigned range. So Leo Castro's recommendation about the silent sample should work.

Here's how you can test in the app.

- Assign a different sample to A0, A#0, B0. In the keyboard at the top of the page, you should see the keys up to B2 highlighted in light blue or gray. If you generated a sample at this point, the sound on B0 would play all the way up to B2 - the top end of the range for that sample.

- If you add a silent sample to C1, then you should see the keys up to C3 highlighted in light blue or gray and the silent sample will play up to C3, but of course, not be heard.

- The same goes if there are unassigned keys to the left of the lowest sample that are part of the assigned range for the lowest sample. I think every sample fills up the entire keyboard to the left, although there are limits to how high a sample will be assigned to the right.

Does this address your issue?
