I am very close to pulling the trigger and buying a Nord Piano 3. However I am concerned by SO MANY reports of Nord gear humming (something to do with the transformer I believe?).
I wondered if anyone could put my mind at rest and let me know what keyboard you have, and if you have humming problems? Particularly interested if you own a Piano 3, Stage 2 EX or Electro 5.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Nords and humming issues
I own a NE5 (and did own an NE3HP before that). In both, the transformer did/does hum a little. In a quiet room this can be heard but it doesn't bother me at all. Even there, when speakers or headphones are used, the sound from the instrument completely covers the hum.
What's more, and what matters most, the hum is purely acoustic and NOT in the electrical signal of the instrument's output. On stage, the issue is a non-issue.
Still, it would be nice of course if Clavia could do something about their transformer group so as to eliminate the humming.

I own a Nord Piano 3 and I can hear some sound from it but I only think about it when it disappears when I turn it off. It's only acoustic and I can't hear anything of it in my headphones or speakers.

Re: Nords and humming issues
Hi.
I own a Stage 2 EX and it is totaly quiet. No humming, and no difference when it is on or off. Maybe a very very little sound from the transformer when I have the ear right near beside it and quiet in the room.
Best regards // Stefan.

Re: Nords and humming issues
I've owned several Nords over the years (Electro 4, C2, Wave, currently Stage2 and Lead2X). I only ever noticed a slight hum from the Wave.
In my current Stage and Lead, I can barely hear something if I put my ear to the chassis in a completely quiet room. Anyway it's so subtle that it's totally covered just by the noise of the keys, not even mentioning the sound of the instrument on headphones or speakers.
I know there are many report of humming Nords, but either they're overrated or I've been very lucky.

NE4D no hum. Roland A-50 always hums.

Re: Nords and humming issues
I've owned an NP3 for 10 weeks, play it every day 2-3 hours minimum and have NOT experienced any humming or unusual noises and no keyboard clatter either. I'm extremely happy with the NP3 thus far.
Re: Nords and humming issues
Good to hear that it appears to be only some units. I'd be curious to know whether those experiencing hum are located in Europe / UK, or the US / Rest of the World?
