Any thoughts on these two boards? I'm trying to decide which to go with here. I'm thinking the G2 would be better for coming up with original sounds. I'm a guitar player first, but I seem to enjoy using synthesizer 'layers' in my original recordings. Nord is also releasing a new synth this year, so...
I recorded the keys in this short piece using an old Yamaha PSR board. The sounds were quite limited, but it sat well in the mix. I don't know why embedding won't work? You have to click the 'watch on YT' option.
All of my newer recordings were done with a Korg i30. Best virtual drummer I've found yet.

Re: Nord Lead 3 vs Nord Modular G2?
The Nord website's DOWNLOADS tab includes a software demo version of the G2 with some slight limitations (no midi output and if I recall correctly monophonic...?). You can install it on your computer and play around with it to get a feel for what having a G2 would be like.
The G2 may be the mac-daddy of all synths ever designed and built by anyone anywhere -- certainly in the running. It's capabilities are very close to infinite. The process through which you need to go to get there may, however, be an arduous one. Players who prefer to simply turn an instrument on and start playing would probably find more happiness with an NL3/NR3. Players who would enjoy a higher level of complete control over sound and don't mind having to work for it will fall in love with the G2.
My two cents...
Pablo

Re: Nord Lead 3 vs Nord Modular G2?
Thank you.
It seems there are some great sounds coming from the G2 presets alone. The thought of building my own sounds is quite enticing - yet I must question my level of patience with such a device. I'm afraid I'll become addicted to 'module building' vs actual composing. I wish Nord would tell us what they plan to release in March 2013. "Synth roots" could mean any number of devices. I recently sold my Nord Wave due to the (IMO) unacceptable lack of arpeggiator and split keys. My guess is that they did this to protect Lead 2X sales, but who knows?

I own both and would not part with either. Download the G2 demo from the Nord site then visit electro-music.com for tons of free patches. You will get lost in the G2 if you are lucky.
