Lead 4 Versus A1

Postby pjblues » 01 Feb 2018, 16:15

I am contemplating purchasing the Lead 4 or the A1 for home use. I am an older person who loves to play, although I am not real good on keys. However, once in awhile I play with a group of folks, (baby boomers). Do both of these boards have the drum patterns in them? I like synth sounds but, also like organs and pads. Am I on the right track?

Thanks.

Well, probably not. If you look for something to play alone at home, including some kind of drum patterns and may be backing tracks, you
should look for different keyboards, oriented to home use. I am not really an expert on those, cannot give you names :-<

I'd recommend you start your search with the Roland Juno DS 61/88 and the Korg Kross 2 61/88. Both come with preset drum patterns and an onboard sequencer to create your own patterns and songs. The sound options will allow you to cover most any style of music. The Yamaha MX 61/88 looks to have all of the above with the exception of the onboard sequencer and ability to create your own drum patterns.

If you'd like more features and better sound engines, you can look at the more advanced (and expensive) products that each company offers.
NS3-88, NS3C, Casio CT-S1, Radial Key Largo, Westone AM Pro 30 IEMs, Rolls PM55P Headphone Mixer, K&M 18880 Keyboard Stand with 18881 Second Tier, Bose S1 Pro, JBL 305p MKII Monitors, Zoom Q2n-4K, Behringer XR18 Mixer

Thanks folks for your quick response. I guess I was looking at Nord for the sound quality. I already own a Korg Kronos 2 88 key but, it is too heavy for playing out with other people.

Ok, then maybe you should look to a Nord Electro (for organs, pianos and using the synth samples you need). It's light and better than a Nord Lead for playing out with other people. Except it has no drum patterns.

It’s not really a synthesiser though. Synth sounds are only available as samples, functions as portamento and filters, lfos etc are unavailable. If you are looking for organs and electric pianos, the electro is a great keyboard for you.
