This was kind of understandable back in the day...and then it became something one figured would be handled as "the day" receded into the past.
But it's now almost 2017 and Clavia still has not released, or even announced a release, of their Sound Manager for IPads and Chromebooks.
I'm not sure how much longer they expect their user base to keep buying Windows laptops or MacBooks, but the coffee is roasting, gentlemen...wake up, smell it, and get the releases out or start to lose your market!
Again...it's almost 2017. This was being discussed on the forums six years ago.

Hi,
NS2 does not have the "organize" functions, and it's painful, I agree, we have to bring back a computer for that.
On the NE5, I only need an external device (understand : a computer with Nord sound manager) for sound library upload and backup. The "manager" part I do on the board itself, thanks to the clever "organize" button / functions.
Thing are moving fast on the "external devices" side, so it's wise to minimise developments in this area, imho.
There are good reasons to release NS3 with onboard "organize" functions, and maybe we won't need any external device at all, one day, soon, later, dunno

Well, um, Apple has sold over 280 million IPads. Chromebooks are selling at the rate of about 7 million a year now. "Minimize developments" seems to be a euphemism for hide in a cave.

How then to upload new samples? A very big selling point for Nord are the libraries. Having to drag out aging technology to access them is getting more irritating as each year passes.

Hi,
Please let me add my thoughts on that. I partly agree to you. I think it would be good if the NS3 would have a SSD drive inside and a platform universal interface like USB that allows to connect 'any' kind of tablet to be the GUI for the sound/sample/... editor. I would not like to see that the complete clavia's sample library is stored on the tablet as this would eat too much memory. What do you think?

I think Clavia needs to release a version of their Sound Manager (and Sample Editor) for iOS now. Today. In the next hour.
And they should get an version for the Chromebook ready for Christmas.
I'm frankly a little surprised this hasn't been a more urgent topic. As in, where the hell is the Sound Manager app?
That it isn't could mean that Clavia's user base is aging as well...which is not good either.

What Nord does so well is keyboards. I don't care how I update the sounds or manage my programs - I just want the best red keyboard I can afford. Maybe I'm aging but then again... I'm 31!
Small companies like Clavia Nord cannot spend the time developing tools for various platforms. Their expertise is in designing and building keyboards.

Clavia's market "edge" is the online library. They need to develop for IPads and Chrome. IPads are not a "various" platform, there are almost 1/3 of a billion of them on the planet. I don't why you are defending this - it's a big gap in their business plan.
And seriously - every yahoo out there is writing apps for every possible application under the sun. You telling me Clavia can't find some code-hound to crank one out for them in a matter of weeks? For something as simple as Sound Manager? Please.

If it is that easy - why not do it yourself?
I'm defending it because I don't think it is a gap in their business plan, I don't think it comes near their business plan because, from what I see, their business plan is all about designing and building the best keyboards. Software has never been a part of that and I don't see that changing.
It would have to be a long term investment as it requires ongoing support and ongoing updates. It's just not where the priority for Clavia Nord is. It never has been and I don't think it ever will be, so rather than gripe about it, I revel in the fantastic keyboard that I have.

If it were my choice (thinking as a Nord product manager), I would choose NOT to have the Sound Manager app run on the Nord board. There are too many potential future "gotchas" with the compatibility of future versions of that application with a static piece of hardware. Also, I would not want any type of operating system (linux derived or other) running on my Nord board if it were to have Internet connectivity - that would be a total non-starter from the perspective of protection against malware.
However (again thinking as a Nord product manager) I would want Sound Manager to run on an iPad.

I personally don't care about the app...
But I think that it would be genius to do a web based sound manager do that it runs on any browser that supports midi!
That way you could potentially only look at one single, universal version rather than at least two (PC, Mac..)
