How to update Nord Stage Classic from software version 2.14

Postby ev-entz » 30 Mar 2016, 14:32

Hello forum,

One of my hire keyboards is a Nord Classic Seventy Six (V1.0-D) that has V2.14 software installed. Naturally it won't connect to the sound manager program etc as the version is too old.

Can anyone point me in the direction of how to update it to say 3, to then allow newer updates?

Thanks for your time.

I'm guessing you don't have the original supplied discs then?
I just had a look to see if I had my old ones, but no luck.
I've got v5.58 of Sound Manager on my backup hard disc, but that is too new for the OS on your Classic.

Maybe another forum member has an old version of Sound Manager hanging around, but have you tried emailing Clavia directly?

I had to read the OP twice to work out the problem, Mr G. New versions of Sound Manager require the OS of the NS to be past a certain point... v4 I think. So because the OP only has an up-to-date version of Sound Manager, even after finding the current version of the OS for the Classic, Sound Manager won't see the instrument in order to update.

Well, that's my interpretation anyway.

Oh, I see... How strange that they do not provide the in-between update. What about emailing Clavia via their website?

Hi ev-entz,

Are you saying that the OS updater on the Nord website won't run? I know of no reason why it shouldn't...

Nord Sound Manager may have a problem with the older OS, but I'm not sure why this is even mentioned -- NSM has nothing to do OS update.
OS update should not affect any onboard custom programming, but this can be dumped via sysex (plus separate synth programming dump, if desired).

After update, the first thing you'll want to do is load new pianos from the v5 library. These will have to be manually relinked in some of the programming.

Please let us know how this goes for you.

Bless, Pablo

Hi all, thanks for taking the time to reply, I hope this explains it better here:

We don't have the original disc.

The OS on the Nord is 2.14. NSM wont find the nord.

I've tried to update the OS but the updater program won't find the nord either.

NSM & Updater need the keyboard to be at least V3.0 to work/ do the update.

Kayj_prod is exactly right - thank you! So yes essentially I hope someone has an older version of the software to allow the updates etc.

Thanks

Steve

Nobody has mentioned the usb driver yet...

Have you downloaded the USB driver? It may be necessary to install the USB driver first before the update will find the Nord.

It will absolutely be necessary to install driver first, unless on a Mac...

Thanks Magpie 85 for pointing out the obvious that we all apparently missed...

If this doesn't work out, please let us know. As it happens, I have another old Stage Classic customer who is on 2.xx and currently engaged in this same process, so if/when I get results from that person, I can post here.

Bless,

Pablo

Hello

Yes I have installed the USB driver - again I get the message that windows does not recognise the attached device.

I will be very grateful to hear your response Pablo.

Thanks

Steve
