How do I sample?

Everything about Nord keyboards in general; which one to choose, the sound manager, sample editor, and general discussion about the sample and piano libraries.

Try googling "sampling" or "how to sample" or something similar to get a basic idea of how it works. I don't wish to be discouraging, but you really seem to have very little idea of how anything works. Nothing wrong with that, we were all beginners once. But trying to deal with concepts like MIDI or sampling without learning anything about them by yourself is pretty pointless. It's one thing to ask for help about a specific problem - that's what forums are for. It's quite another to expect everyone to teach you every single basic thing about keyboards. That's really your job, not ours. I'm sure people will be willing to help you here, but you're going to struggle to understand what they're talking about without some background knowledge of your own.

Agree with the above from RedLeo. It's quite an involved task to do it right.
Here's a few tips

1) You need an audio interface for your laptop. something like this maybe: http://bit.ly/1Mlt37X (i'm not recommending it - just a possible. I use a Allen & Heath Zed10fx for the same job).
2) Assuming you set up that device as per the instructions, you have the audio OUT from the Kurzweil keyboard going into this using audio cables, and the audio adapter connected to your PC via a USB cable.
3) Use a program like Audacity http://bit.ly/1GkAQUA to record the sound into WAV files
4) Use Nord Sample Editor (supplied with the NS2 or available on the Nord site) to turn your WAV file(s) into something that can be loaded on the Nord.

You will still have a lot of reading to do, but this gives you a step in the right direction.
Good luck! and have fun! If you sample something awesome, upload it here :-)
And now for something completely different...

Oh dear :(.
Seems like no one wants to help a new to nord guy out.

fWIW I'm a bass player not a keyboardist.

I assumed I could plug into the nords monitor in 3.5mm and through to sampler somehow.

I haven't got an audio interface for the laptop, my PC broke down and I got a tab so sold a thing that went with the PC.

Sorry for being dumb, as looking online for a ay to do it and didn't get any info by the way.

Also , I tried everything with the midi and the FA-06 and the nord just don't get on, I learnt some basic midi info and understand it a lot better now.. Sometimes I don't want to know how everything works and have a couple of spare hours here and there to sort the nord out so often find forums an indispensable tool to get fast quick fixes like this from the pros.

I guess the Kurzweil community are just more accepting than Clavia nord

Thanks neolithic, yeh I wanted to sample loads of Kurzweil stuff and upload it here also, but seems I need to buy more stuff to do that and will ha e sold the Kurzweil by then.

If I can get it sorted I'll sample the Roland FA-06 and some korg stuff.

@Nordrik

You're not stupid and you're not doing anything wrong. You're just inexperienced with keyboards and you're finding out the hard way that being a modern keyboard player isn't as easy as it looks. Modern keyboard use a lot of technology and it takes time to learn how they work To look at it another way, when you started playing bass, you undoubtedly took the time and effort to learn how to play your instrument. I'm quite sure that you wouldn't have expected you could learn how to play bass and manage your instrument just by asking a few quick questions on the internet. If it were that easy we'd all be Rick Wakemean :)

Adding keyboard skills to your existing musicianship will be very rewarding in the long wrong, so don't give up, keep learning and you will get there. Just remember that Rome wasn't built in a day.

However, it's not fair of you to say that we are not "accepting". People took the time to answer your questions, and you simply couldn't understand the answers because, in your own words you "don't want to know how everything works". That's wilful ignorance on your part and is your fault, not ours.

Your last paragraph speaks sense and will take it on board ;).

Yeh , I have played bass for years and it seemed easy to me from the start.
Get a bass, get an amp, find a good tone, then you're set to rock, with keyboard (I took it up about 2 1/2 years ago just playing a little here and there.
I'm in a band where I provide a bit of everything, mainly guitar but am starting to try and get my keys rig and skills better, borrowed some money off my awesome Dad to get the nord to try and take my playing to the next level, so as soon as its paid off I'll be looking for lessons

The problem with being a keyboard player is that, unless you're really just a fantastic player who will pay people to program and care for their stuff, the job has become increasingly at least part-time IT technician over the past 32 years.

I love my nord stage for being mostly just plug-it-in-and-play-it, with easy, hands-on tweaking on board, but every once in a while, you need to delve deeper.

I'm glad you're sticking with it. I'm sorry if I've seemed a little harsh on you. I don't mean any harm, but sometimes things just aren't as simple as might at first appear, and as the resident Mr. Grumpyboots, I usually take it upon myself to say what needs to be said. Good luck to you :)
