Electro5 software upgradability

If I buy a 2015 version of the Electro 5, can I upgrade the OS software to the current release (Jan 2017)? Via the USB interface with Mac?

Do you know how to poll the 5 to see what OS version it's running? Does it show on the OLED?

Yes, for a few seconds at startup while the OS is loading.
