Hi
I just got some new very special speakers for my studio (Unity Audio The Rock MK2).
Everything sounded hunki-dori (I run Elektron RYTM, A4, Moog Minitaur & NS2 via a UAD Apollo) except for one thing that was glaring...
...the rhodes mkV and the standard Wurly samples.
Honestly, they sound like ass via the Rock, totally distorted and resonating badly. I replicated via a Nord Piano 2 and again via my Sennheiser HD600. Don't know why I had never noticed it before.
Problem is that there is way too much mid, so the only way to make these sounds usable is to scoop the mid by at least 10db at 1000Hz.
This sounded weird initially, but I have got used to it.
Furthermore the amp simulations sound much better with the mid scooped, you can drive them harder for a more natural distortion. Before I scooped the mid the amp sims were way too harsh. And another thing, the wah is now usable too.
I have no idea what Nord are up to. You make a kick ass instrument but totally handicap the electric pianos.
Has anyone else noticed this?
