Computer doesn't recognize Nord for sibelius input.

Postby HelenKeys » 08 Feb 2017, 07:16

I'm trying to use my Nord stage 2 ex as a midi input device into sibelius. Sibelius doesn't recognize the nord. Neither does garage band. (Yes, I know. Garage band. Totally corny.) I have a mac, os 10.8.5

I just got this nord after playing only accoustic pianos my whole life.
I'm in over my head.

Hey, welcome to the forum!
It sounds like your NS2EX isn't sending its MIDI-Signals via USB.
First thing I'd do is check out the MIDI-settings (look in the manual) and make sure the right MIDI-channel is set to one of the USB-MIDI-Channels (MIDI via USB). (Try various channels until it works ;) )
I can't help you through every step right now, but I'm sure you'll figure that out...
Let me/us know if it worked!

I would be interested to hear your results too, as I have the same problem! Best

If you are connecting to the Mac/PC via USB you need to ensure that the Global Channel is set to USB1 (or alternatively/better you can use the Extern Section and set it to USB1).

Of course if instead you use a MIDI DIN connection to yoru Mac/PC Soundcard or MIDI interface, then you have to set it as MIDI1-16 (and you will not see any "Nord Stage" in the Mac/PC MIDI devices but still only your sound/MIDI interface)

I recommend you read carefully the MIDI sections of the NS manual and also download the "NS MIDI Tutorial" guide which is available on this site (link on main Portal page) and explains how to deal with the NS MIDI settings in various situations.

I've tried setting the global to USB 1, I've set everything to USB.

My midi chords work. I tested them with my other keyboard and it was fine. I've scoured the internet, nothing is really answering my question and if it is, it isn't spelled out enough for me to get it.

This is crazy, but I turned the MIDI Global Channel to MIDI * 1 and now its working... I'm using a USB port, but for some effed up reason, sibelius is recognizing MIDI 1 instead. I don't get it. But its working. Any clarity on why this is so I can understand better what I'm doing?

It is possible you had set multiple sections/slots on the same channel which actually disables it.

Can you please list all (all, including External section, if you use itl) your NS2 MIDI settings and also all connections between your NS2 and the PC?
