Re: A new Nord will arrive
Just wildly speculating: analog synth from Nord? Or hybrid analog (mixing analog and digital)? Maybe new Wave with analog components?
We've seen this major analog boom in resent history. Brands like Korg, DSI, Elektron, Arturia, Waldorf and Novation have released their quite low budget analog synths. I suppose this has been success. Now we are so close to NAMM and we'll see what happens next. Maybe we see something from Roland, Yamaha or Clavia too. Or maybe not ...

That would be terrific. But I dont think a company like clavia would take this risk. But who knows? They have my vote if they build a six voice analog synth. The last time they really took a big leap was when they made the G2. That didnt sell well and ive read somewhere that alot of the original developers from clavia left the company since then. I would like to see an evolution from their roots and not just make a new lead or stage piano which just feel like updates in technology. It just lacks the soul and character of a one of a kind instrument. Its a shame really but I think companies like Clavia are playing it safe and make something they know that works beause they already proven that these type of products would sell. But you can only go so far if you do the same thing over and over again without change and evolution.

Re: A new Nord will arrive
I hope and think the synth on the picture is the new Nord Wave 2. I can't think it could be anything else atm. Though often when clavia releases a new synth I often get a bit skeptical, because their synths often have major limitations. So often even when it's a newer version of the predecessor, it might not be better, but different. But it keeps me excited, maybe they nail it this time. I really liked the Nord Wave, you could make so many different sounds on it. It's a huge synth in a small package. The interface made advanced tasks so much easier then any competition. But I lacked mod sources. It should've been 4 part multitimbral and should've had arpeggiator. More FM capabilities. I will be tempted if a new Wave 2 would implement this without compromise.

Re: A new Nord will arrive
I don't think they'll release a Nord Wave 2 for certain reasons... the main one being that there isn't much they can really do to improve the Wave.
The picture with the small Nord synthesizer on a single brace stand shouldn't be taken seriously - I think that's a way of Clavia diverting our attention to something else so that they can really surprise us and catch us off-guard, sorry to break spirits but there aren't any inputs or outputs on the back of the keyboard, and even if Clavia did release a Nord Wave 2, it'd definitely have the satin sides that are featured in the Nord Lead 4, as well as the Electros, Stages and Pianos.
I'd like to see a Nord Modular G3 come out but the truth is it won't. Clavia's software programming team... well, I'm not going to beat around the bush - they aren't cut out for or ready for another modular software design. To my understanding, their software development team consists of 3 personnel, and one of them is simply there to oversee projects.
There have been an insane amount of predictions for a Stage 3, I think this will probably be the most logical prediction although I wouldn't like to see a Stage 3 being released, in my opinion Clavia have been caring way too much for their piano/stage piano products and neglecting the synth products. Well, that is up until the Lead 4 was released.
I personally think that the next Nord to hit the market will either be a USB/MIDI controller (as much as everyone would hate to see that), or another virtual analog synth that focuses more on creating your own sound from scratch; much like the wave but with a lot more options in terms of waveforms, shapes, etc.
Possibly even with drawbars, much like many other analog synths. Again, this might just be me but I'd love to see a Nord synth with drawbars. It'd be something different.

I had similar thoughts but then thought how a new Wave could be a killer product for 2014. Maybe if it had a lot more memory (always good!) and some sample playback algorithms (a'la V-Synth or SampleWiz), more filter types, modulation matrix etc... then it would be a fabulous product.

Re: A new Nord will arrive
I thought I read something about how a possible Wave 2 upgrade being impossible to have more than the original Wave's 128mb of sample memory... I don't know where I read that but I know I saw it somewhere. I'll try dig it up somewhere.
I admit though, it'd be cool to see a Wave 2 with the impulse morph function featured on the Lead 4... that is, if the Wave 2 is set to come out. We can only wait and see.
I had a little bit of a fiddle on the Lead 4 in my local (big) music store and was really impressed with the impulse morph function and nearly raged at Clavia that night for having waited so long to come out with it (i.e not putting it on the Wave) but all-in-all I can't say I could really see myself using it that much. In fact the only time I'd use anything featured in recent Nord products is for my own amusement when I'm at home, twangin' around on the keys.

Could well be the case that their current OS/hardware might not be able to address above a certain amount of memory at least not contiguously. Other ways around this could be to offer bank switching i.e. individual banks of RAM. The Stage 2 offers 256mb though doesn't it?

Re: A new Nord will arrive
The Stage 2 has 500 MB of piano sample memory, and 380 MB of "regular" sample memory.
The Nord giveth; the Nord taketh away…

Well there ya go! Thanks man!
500MB would be a nice amount for a Wave 2. Though I reckon it could be a lot more in this day and age.
