Evening all,
Fairly simple question I guess - can anyone recommend a 2 tier stand to accommodate a Nord on the bottom (specifically an NP2 - essentially the same dimensions and weight as a Nord Stage 2 HA88) and a small synth on the top (specifically a novation mininova). I've been researching for a bit but all the models I've seen have mixed reviews on Amazon and I'm struggling to find one that I definitely know will fit and be solid.
Ideally I'd like it to be a folding X frame, but that's not a deal breaker. So any recommendations? What do y'all use?
Cheers, H

Re: 2 tier stand recommendations
Personally I like a Z-Frame stand as it allows for more foot area. However if you gig a lot, it is not quite a portable as an X Frame.
This is like what what I have in my studio. I had to drill a few holes to get it to accommodate my Hammond SK2 (made it more stable)

I originally had one like this:
https://www.amazon.com/Easyfashion-Heav ... ard+stands
For single tier stand, I use one similar to this as it is lighter and more compact than either of the above.
https://www.amazon.com/Gearlux-Adjustab ... ard+stands
I don't have one of these but they show some promise for both portability and stability. I would certainly want to test for stability and quality before buying as many look a like but I've heard some have quite cheap construction.
Most of the time you can find all of these cheaper on a site like ebay.

This is what I use:

NP2 88 HA on the bottom, Novation SL MKII on top - I had an Alesis Q88 on top before that, worked fine on this stand.

Re: 2 tier stand recommendations
I have the Quiklok QL/642 two tier X stand. Have always used this type as they're very quick to set up.
It's sturdy with my Stage 2 HA76 and Triton Extreme 61.
Not sure whether the upper tier would be too wide for the Novation in a seated position though.
A board may be needed.

Re: 2 tier stand recommendations
I use the Proline Z-stand, with the add-on top as needed:

I've found Z stands to be more resistant to wobble than X-stands, unless you get the double-X ones which are quite heavy. Z-stands tend to open up when carried, so I recommend 1-foot velcro strips to wrap around the legs when folded up.
For the top, I lay a 40" wire shelf that I bought at Home Depot. It's very light and does the job. I place it upside down to take advantage of the lip. With this I can set a synth, a mixer, and and IPad in a row.

At home I use the same setup, although with a heavy double-X stand that never travels. I have studio monitors instead of the iPad, which I only use for gigs to balance my stage monitor (we use a Behringer X18 system).

Yes wire shelf works great. I do the same when I put my 32 key midi controller on it.

Re: 2 tier stand recommendations
I use the Baby Spider Pro stand. I bought an extra pair of arms. It has a small footprint, looks good, extremely adjustable (boards can be very close together), plenty of room for pedals, sturdy, and I added some DIY stuff such as a Triad orbit boom. Expensive, but it folds up very compact into one piece except for the extra arms which fit easily in one of the keyboard gig bags.

Re: 2 tier stand recommendations
I use a Spider Pro stand. I have used it a long time, but, playing 2 boards in standing position, the stand always looks like a Sopwith Camel biplane taking off.
So, I bought a great stand for 2 boards: An Quiklok black aluminum Z stand with the aluminum 2nd rack extenders. Great stand, very light, about 20 pounds complete, but I went back to my equally great Spider Pro. Why?
Because the Pro folded into a smaller size, and it was easier to slide into my vehicle next to the 2 boards. I was just more used to doing that, but the Quiklok is right there any time I need it.
FWIW: Also, the Quiklok would occasionally not snap together easily; it has those spring-loaded chrome button into the small hole systems, but mine just didn't work that well. I am super gentle on equipment too. I got a bit scared this after one of the locks actually popped loose inside a welded capped tube.
I bought some pins with springs safety clips at local hardware store to alleviate any gig night stress, so that became a non-problem.

Re: 2 tier stand recommendations
I looked into the Spider pro but it was somewhat out of my budget. I may have saved myself money in the long term if I hadn't bought and experimented with other various cheaper stands. I suppose if I was able to test one in a store to determine it's stability with my gear, I may have ended up going with it.

Re: 2 tier stand recommendations
I use the On-Stage Z stand with a second teir add-on. you adjust the width to the narrowest keyboard. I keep my A1 on top and an mpk61 on the bottom. I love it. it was a little top heavy at first. but then i adjusted the top teir down a bit. and its really solid now.
