Hello everybody!
I was thinking about putting the new "Grand Lady D" piano in my NS classic but I have a doubt about the string resonance feature.
There are 3 sizes for the pianos, LRG, MED, SML.
LRG and MED use the string resonance feature
SML does not have it.
So, in my NS classic, the 3 sizes will sound the same because there is no string resonance feature in the NS classic, is that it??
There is no need of using the LRG and MED sizes?? Can I save memory space using the SML size and not loosing the quality??
thanks for any help!

Re: Nord Stage string resonance feature
Hey Cleito.
I was thinking the same thing at first, but I checked it out.
It seems the difference between the sizes are not only the string resonance but also the pedal-down-samples.
The string resonance does not work on the classic as you said, but the pedal-down-samples do.
I myself chose to use the Grand Lady in large on my stage classic, but I had to delete alot of other stuff to make it fit.
You will have to check it out yourself to see what is best for you.
Have fun.
Sebastian.

Re: Nord Stage string resonance feature
Thank you Sebastian!
So, no SR(string resonance)
But about the "pedal-down-sample" what does it really mean when playing?
For example, if a play without using the sustain pedal, will be no difference in the 3 piano sizes?(LRG, MED, SML)
And when I use the sustain pedal, it means that the sound that is being sustained will sound with better quality? more realistic?
thank's

Re: Nord Stage string resonance feature
I'm glad to help :)
Yes you are right.
When playing without using the sustain pedal there will be no difference in the sizes as you said.
If you play while holding the pedal down, it will play a different sound, as if you were playing a real piano while holding the pedal down.
(On a real piano when holding pedal down) All the dampers will lift and there will be alot of string resonance from other notes when you play.
The thing that Clavia/Nord calls "String resonance"(the thing that only the stage EX and the Nord piano have) is the string resonance that occures when NOT holding the pedal down. There will be some string resonance, but not as much as when you play with the pedal down, because all the dampers are lifted.
I think you should try out the different sizes yourself, if you can. Then you will really hear the difference that I'm talking about. But only different when holding down the pedal of course.
I really hope my post is not too confusing to read. Please ask again if you are still not sure.

Re: Nord Stage string resonance feature
Everything is clear for me now, thank's
I play pop rock, so I use a lot pedal down samples.
I will definitily use the big sizes now.
I only use 1 acoustic piano and 1 rhodes, so, no problem with the memory size.
thank's for the help!
God bless

Re: Nord Stage string resonance feature
Yeah I also play mostly pop, rock and funk stuff, so I also like to have the large sample. I just chose the Grand lady Large and I like the 2 new rhodes sounds. Then I have room for another rhodes, the wurlitzer and clavinet. That's fine for me at the moment. Don't really need the upright or cembalo sounds much personally.
You can also try the medium sound and see if that is okay. But I personally like the large sample even though it fills so much space.
Have fun with the new sounds :)

Re: Nord Stage string resonance feature
Hello again
I was thinking about the MED piano size, the Clavia website says:
The Medium versions have pedal-down String Resonance samples in the important middle region of the range, but omit these in the lowest and the highest areas. This gives you a good ratio of functionality and size.
So, about this "important middle region of the range", where is it exactly?
Because I have the NS compact, so maybe the MED size will be better for me instead of the LRG size, will use less memory space.
Anybody know where this "range" starts and where it ends?

Re: Nord Stage string resonance feature
Sorry I haven't checked it out.
I think you should check it out yourself. Erase your stuff on the stage, and then try the small/medium/large samples to find out what you prefer.
Have fun.

Re: Nord Stage string resonance feature
Thank you for the answer
I have sent a email to Clavia about this "key-range-for-the-MED-piano-size" stuff...
So, I don't know if they will help with that.
I hope the MED size is everything I need.

Re: Nord Stage string resonance feature
I received the email from clavia and it says:
The pedal down samples starts at different places. You need to load the
sounds and determine this, but I think the Med sounds would do nicely.

So, I guess I will try the MED size and see if it works.
