Hi,
FIrst post; please excuse the mistakes...
I'm using a Roland Lucina and would like to use the sounds from my Nord Electro 5 via wireless midi. Anybody know anything about this? Is it possible; what are the limitations...
Also, if anyone knows the best wireless midi setup, chime in.
Thanks,
Mikey

Re: Wireless Midi possible??
I would like to know this also, however my guess is that if anyone has this solution you would be locked into that vendor. Also, there may be latency issues.
For instance, if I use wireless bluetooth headphones for audio from my board, there is a noticeable delay which affects my playing ability. Works great if just listening though but the feedback delay really screws up my brain.
I know bluetooth audio is quite different than what wireless midi is so maybe there would be a much less delay in midi wireless solution.
Would be quite interesting to see if any wireless midi standards are being developed (beyond the proprietary solution Roland has).

I control a Nord Stage 2 wirelessly with an Alesis Vortex (the original, non-wireless model) and this device...

Works beautifully, with no interference or latency issues.

Hmm, I wonder if you connect one end to a host computer or this midi translator box via Midi to USB adapter and then the other end to a midi router (merge box) whether you could control everything over the single wireless link.

Re: Wireless Midi possible??
I believe the demand for connection reliability will differ between the case of using wireless MIDI to control a synth, vs. using wireless MIDI to send "note on" and "note off" signals from a keyboard to actually control the music you are playing.
Consider this: if a traditional physical MIDI cable goes bad, that can result in the "note off" signal not reaching the synth, which will result in that note continuing to sound until you power off the synth and restart it.

Re: Wireless Midi possible??
wireless midi has been around for years in one form or another. I have a pair of CME units that worked flawlessly without noticeable latency transmitting from remote controller keyboard to midi rack. Long distances were no problem, even through walls, etc. I'm quite sure that they still work fine, but my rig requirements changed, so they are parked in a drawer for a while now.

+1 on the Pandamidi solution, I was looking for that since I bought last year the Roland AX synth second hand, I did a lot of research and Pandamidi seems to be one of the best....not bought yet but it's on my list....

Re: Wireless Midi possible??
More to the point, bluetooth MIDI seems like a thing. Easy to do on recent iPads and similar, newer MIDI controllers support it, and Yamaha offers a $50 dongle that will retrofit your Nords among others. I'm getting myself a bluetooth MIDI rig for Christmas, will report back here.
I think I have gear issues ....
