Sound Manager for iPad?!

Postby Papamotif » 02 Oct 2012, 10:52

Anyone else that would like to have the Sound Manager for Ipad?

I´ve talked to Nord and they are blaming Apple for not letting them use their file types in iOS.

How can we persuade Apple to fix this?

The bit about the file types sounds a bit weird, but it's possible of course.

I also mess around with model helicopters and for bit of electronic kit on them can be controlled via bluetooth. For Android there's an app to configure that bit of kit, but according to the maker they cannot create such an app for the iPhone/iPad because Apple won't let them. Sounds a bit like the same situation.

Apple only does what's good for Apple (and their shareholders). I doubt we could do much. :-x

It is interesting to hear though Clavia did investigate the possibility of creating an IOS app to manage their products.

I had a look at this earlier and it would involve reverse engineering Clavia's USB protocol, handling differences between different instruments (i.e. Wave, Stage 2, etc.) and it would likely run into the same issue as Clavia w.r.t non-standard USB protocols (if this really is an issue).

I consider it rather unlikely some independent party will come up with a mobile alternative for Sound Manager.

I would like it too. Especially live on stage to switch patches on my NE4D. We are living in the 21st century and I hear statements like this. It's a shame. I pay a lot of money for their keyboards and there is so much inflexibility to the real world. Please offer an sound manager app - I also would pay for it.

I also have Yamaha MOTIF gear. Look what they have done: https://itunes.apple.com/at/app/voice-e ... 43827?mt=8 And I use it a lot. And I am inspired to use and buy their gear in the future also because of their (app) developing flexibility.

You don't need sound manager to switch programs on your keyboard. Just a midi interface and something like Set List Maker - which amongst other things can send pertinent program change messages over midi when you trigger a song. Instead of a midi interface, you can use a Camera Connection Kit and USB cable to any CoreMidi compatible device. I think you may be limited to one device doing it this way unless a USB hub is supported (IDK).

Hi!

Is there a similar set list maker for Android (for Galaxy phones let's say), or similar applications to change the Nord programs quickly by touching different song titles?
Is this only available at Apple?

Not currently. There may well be other Android applications which perform a similar function. Alternatively the developer of Set List Maker is looking for someone to work with him to port it to android:

This would really make life easier than having to lug the laptop to gigs as I have multiple Nords.
