Softcase Nord electro 5 hp

Post by thecount »

Hey guys

I know there have been a few threads about this topic yet, but they did not really help me to decide. I bought an electro 5 hp, primarily for stage and small solo gigs. At this point i am searching for a lightweight softcase. The nord 76 softcase is just to heavy IMO.

I read that a lot of you are using the Gator PG 61, which seems to be a good choice. The only reason i am hesitating to buy is that there are no wheels. My alternate choice would be a soundwear case for 76 key pianos with wheels, but it does not fit the 5 hp as good as the gator, regarding the specs. (dont think its available in the US)

My main question: What are your experiences? Which case do you use, and are wheels necessary for the small weight of the electro 5 hp? Or will the Gator case with its backstraps do the job?

thank you in advance

The wheels are not a requirement for the Electro HP models if you're an average, able-bodied adult. I own both the Gator case and the Nord 73 HP bags for my Electro 3HP (same size as the 5). The Nord bag is lighter and less bulky than the Gator, but it is also less protective. That being said, the Gator is by no means heavy. The Gator also comes with a backpack strap, if you find that suitable.

I own a Stage 2EX 76HP, and have the Nord wheeled bag for it - I've expressed my disappointment in its weight in other threads on this forum. The Stage is only a few pounds heaver than the Electro, but the addition of the wheeled case makes it quite bothersome. When I bought the Stage, I had planned to sell the Electro to offset the cost, but decided against it. I still use the Electro a lot for quick rehearsals and gigs where stairs are involved.

I would be much happier if Gator came out with the ProGo bag that fit the Stage. The next size up is too long.

I use a Roland CB-61-RL 61 Note Keyboard Carrying Bag for my Nord Electro 5 HP
It's a soft case and a has a shoulder strap and inside protected spot for a sustain pedal.
Absolutely perfect fit

Update because i got some pm's regarding the topic:

I bought the Gator PG 61 and i'm totally satisfied with the choice. I can carry the NE 5 HP over longer distances with the shoulder strap and one hand. Short ways are also possible with stuff in both hands and just the shoulder strap. The padding is really good and there's enough room for pedal, cables etc. With the nord in it, there is enough spare room to lay some light gear like mic stands on it in the car.
Never missed wheels on it. Really good manufacturing quality.
